: Boost Gauge question
dmax4fun 06-04-2005, 10:17 AM Where is the best place to put a tap for a boost gauge? What are the differences in putting it in the wastegate line or putting it in the intercooler line? I really like the idea of the Super Diesel kit but is currently out of my price range.(not really but the wife said "do it and sleep on the couch"):blahblah:
So i have had the gauges for like 4 months now and just want to get them done. Any suggestions please let me know. Thanks for your :help2: .

I really like SuperDiesel's manifold. I just got mine the other day. It was around $100 I believe.
Got Juice? 06-04-2005, 10:59 AM The couch isn't that bad. Closer to the remote and 'intelligent conversation'

Go out and get a more comfortable couch to sleep on and get the Superdiesel manifold not sleeve like I previously stated. ):h
toy fever 06-04-2005, 11:46 AM Super Diesel's manifold is the only way to go :ro)
On a side note the couch isn't a bad option.... ...my ATS upgrade cost me a new uplander for the wife Censored
Diesel Tech 06-04-2005, 12:24 PM If you have the means to drill and tap a hole you can do as I have. Look at the casting the intercooler pipe connects to. I just take the pipe off, place a rag down the inside then dril and tap a 1/8" NPT into the casting above the rag location. Take a vacum and suck up anything inside then pull the rag back out. Install boost fitting into hole and it a very clean install.
tdoggnasty 06-07-2005, 11:35 AM I just teed into the wastegate line and it was super easy. This a post here has the size of the brass fittings to get and some pics it makes it really easy. I got all the stuff at ACE hardware. I was like you and had the gauges for a few months before I got around to installing them and it was pretty easy, just take your time and use good tools.

this is the right way to go. When you take your truck to the stealer you will have to remove SD manifold and other stuff. Is best not to have to remove gauge stuff. . . .
What does the SD manifold do? I can't seem to find any info on it.

check the website on my sig for a pic. They are used for attaching jets for nitrous, for Hobbs boost swithchs, water/meth nossles, and propne boost hose. They can also be used to attach boost line for gauges.

I agree with removing "other stuff" but I don't plan on removing the SD Manifold when visiting the dealer.
Deadeye 06-08-2005, 10:45 AM If you leave it on you will likely get questions. Certainly if you have serious engine problems. Will put you in a risk situation with a dealer if he sees it and remembers it in the future when you have a costly warranty problem.
dmax4fun 06-08-2005, 08:01 PM is there a difference in boost pressure between the 2?
WanaDmxsub 06-08-2005, 10:06 PM dmax4fun-Yes there is a pressure drop across the inter cooler.
Deadeye-I see your point. In my mind, there is nothing wrong with monitoring the boost pressure, if I remove the manifold and still have the gauge installed, it looks like I'm hiding something. Did I say that I still have the stock intake in the back of the truck (just in case)?
Deadeye 06-09-2005, 10:43 AM I connected my boost to the waste gate line. That way I dd not have to disconnect any gauge stuff when taking my rig back to stock. It took me three days to go back to stock and I still got two more items to remove. . . . PIA
shuffman 06-09-2005, 11:39 AM Here is where I tapped into for my boost indicator for my "X-Monitor" by BD Power. There was no need to cut or slice lines all the tubing and rubber hose required was with the kit. A very simple installation...............SWH...:grd:
