I had this problem with my old '04 as well -- I found that if you have someone pull outward, very slightly, on that mirror while you try and extend it with the in-cab controls, it'll generally extend out just fine. Most of the time it will work for a week or two before getting "stuck" again.

When I talked with the service department about it, they said that the motor in that mirror was going bad and that it's a rather common problem with our trucks. They also said that it's covered under warranty and just to schedule up a time when they could fix it.

I ended up trading the truck in before I got the mirror fixed, so I can't speak directly from experience, but I have no reason to doubt them. :)

I had mine in 3 times for this problem and then they replaced the motor and it has been fine since, but I don't use it often so I hope it actually is fixed and not in remission:)

GM had a write up on this in either their tech news letter or a TSB. It is discussed somewhere on the is site. Good luck in finding it.

The first step the dealer did on mine was to lube the track. The problem was still there, so they replaced the mirror. That fixed things for about nine months, but now it is starting to stick again. I think the camper mirrors we have are being discountinued for 2006. That must be GM's fix. (Actually the mirror is made by supplier for GM, but I can not remember the name of the company. It is also posted on this site somewhere.)

My mirrors do that to. What I have done is to not have the mirrors all the way in all the time. They seem to work better this way. My theory is that when the mirrors are all the way in the mechinism is at the inner limits so it doesn't go in too far. This causes it to not be able to re-engage the gears to move the mirror out. So if you keep the gears at a place that they are fully engaged then they should work most of the time.
This is my opinion and maybe full of Censored. Any thoughts?

So if the motors are going out on these things... What makes the motor die? Too much voltage to it, bad ground? Any ideas. My right mirror has the same problems. And why is it only the passenger side?
