: Tougher door handles??

So my truck got broken into last night. Second time in 2 years. They punched the lock cylinder in. They only took a few bucks change, a couple CD's and my gum. Why do they always take the gum?

Anyway I was wondering if any of you have seen tougher door handles for the 01-07 trucks? Something that they can't punch the lock in on. At least make it tougher for people looking for a quick few bucks. I remember reading about Jimmy Jammers for stopping people from using slim jims.

Any thoughts idea's out there to stop them from punching the lock cylinders in?

get a door handle without the lock cylinder, and use your remote.

i've never even stuck the key in my door. gotta make sure you change the battery in the remote, and don't leave any dome lights on! :D

I was afraid of that happening after i swapped door handles and saw how easy it would be to break in so i ended up taking the lock rod off the back of the lock cylinder so even if they do bust it through theres no way to unlock it. bottom line though if someone wants in your truck, they WILL get in no matter what precautions you take

Oh I agree they will find a way if they want to. Most of these kinds of things around here are just because its easy to get a couple bucks. I just want to make it difficult for them.

I don't have power locks, so I'd rather not put on a handle without a key hole, or disconnect it.

I have had two of my customers have the same thing happen to them both in parking garages in vegas. One guy actually came out early morning and come across the scums and they jumped in their car and left. Then he realized they had punched in the lock cylinder. Thats when I realized why gm quite putting a key hole on the passenger side and on the liftgate(suburban). That is also when I realized I have been lucky because I go to vegas every year for the last ten (nascar) and haven't had it happen to me. I think I will do a lot more valet parking for a few buck tips. Anyways I thought the same thing: Get a driver door handle without lock cylinder, but I didn't know they made such a thing. What would be really cool is have a guy hiding in the back of my suburban with a shotgun all night waiting for them!

how exactly do they open it after the punch the lock cylinder in?

If the cylinder goes all the way in they can just push it down (iirc) and it unlocks the door.

the first time it happened to me they punched it in and then just turned the whole cylinder.

Are any of those chromed door handles, or any made out there any different when it comes to holding the lock cylinder? I want something that won't break like these pastic ones do.

i thought I had seen some where on the internet of a company that sells a product that prevents this problem. If i remember correctly this product was a simple install. I'll see if I can find it for ya and post it.

Locks are made to keep honest people honest - they will never keep thieves out! If they can't yank the lock they will just break the windows.

If you make the cylinder hard- they will just break glass.

True, but based on the types of vehicles they are breaking into, it seems to just be kids. All they take is loose change and a few CD's. Just small stuff they can get a couple bucks for. The other vehicles are around my place that have been broken into are all easy to get into. That's why they do it. There usually is not anything in my truck worth stealing, so if I make it tough so that they can't just break the handle, I don't think I will have a problem.

Did you ever luck finding that? I have done some searching myself, hoping I could find it.

Happened to me too. Only thing I could find is billet door handles. I would get them but then I would have to pay to powder coat then black to match. I too am going to remove the rod from the back.

Thanks for the website info!:)
Would a rear door handle from a crew cab with no hole fit in the front drivers door with no problems?

Thanks in advance!;)

Why do they always take the gum?

Next time, leave a pack gum laced with Habanero peppers in the truck. Just remember not to accidentally reach for it!
