Thought I would post my winter project that I am going to start as soon as I get the shop cleaned. I am going to attempt to cram a JD 359 6cyl diesel engine into a 1983 chevy dually. I picked up 2 JD 329 diesel engines for this project last summer, but recently bought a dodge D200 with a JD 359 engine so I am going to use the 359 instead. This will be a ground up restoration as the cab, nose, and bed need to be replaced. Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Cool swap. Does that thing use a Roosa Master pump? What is the rated hp?

JD, first off welcome.

Second, you can't come all around here and start talking about doing something like this without posting pics man!

Sounds like an awesome project, can't wait to see pics and updates as you get into it.

That old 83 will be an awesome truck, and those were such good looking trucks too. I have a '80 K30 that I am going to build in a couple years.

Detroitdiesel- As far as i know it has the roosa master pump, but wont know for sure until i remove the engine. I am guessing HP is 100 to 150.

Oldbrownsierra- Thanks for the welcome. Just let me know how many pics you want and I will start posting :). Yes these 80s chevy trucks are a good looking truck. Heres a vid of the JD 5.9L running.

That truck is unbelievable! What kind of auto tranny does it use?? Also, what it wrong with the dodge that the engine is currently in?

I think the PO said its a Chrysler 727. Nothing wrong with the dodge other than the normal VT rust. I am not a dodge fan, plus i already have the body parts to do the chevy.

Hello, sorry winter delayed the start of the project. I finally got the boss V plow on the the tractor so I am hoping I can get the truck in the shop next week.

Well after many delays it looks like I should be starting this project in the next few weeks. I bought a bunch of beef cows this past winter which sucked up all of my truck money. Heres a few pics from last week. Got the nose, bed, and engine out of the truck. Also picked up a rebuilt Turbo 400 HD tranny from a friend.

Hello, Engine is around 1400lbs. I am still waiting for a spec sheet from Deere for this engine. As for the Dodge its in pieces now. Tried for months to sell it, but in the end I pretty much gave it away just to get rid of it. Here's a vid I took of its final drive 2 weeks ago.

Heres a few pics I took a few days ago. The guy I sold the dodge to finally had the engine ready to be pulled so a friend went with me to get it. Hoping to have the engine stripped for paint by the end of the week.
