What is the best way to mount a 4' firestik CB antenna in my bed or on my truck with a tool box?

If you don't mind drilling holes on your toolbox I've seen guys screw a mount right into the part of the toolbox between the box and the cab. That's probably what I'm gonna do when I get around to mounting mine. I think I'll use something like this (http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/SS-204.htm) mount. Hope that helps!

Of course you could always get the hood channel mount from www.gmdieseltech.com That thing is super clean looking. Just depends on where you want your antenna.

I use the front right stake bed hole. Have an antenna mount which secures in the stake hole and extends out several inches allowing the tool box to sit flush on the bed rails. I think I got it from a WA local with web site. Have a 3' Firestick on my set-up. I belive they also sell Firestick's??? Hope this helps.

Ive got 3' firesticks mounted in the way that WAskier mentioned. it looks great is real sturdy and I know of at least 2 people that have followed suit and love it. i get a lot of compliments too. mine are black with red caps and my truck is grayish, silverbirch to be exact. my buddies are white with white caps on a white dodge and they look sick too. if i didnt have dial up id take some pics and post em.

If I bolt an 18 wheeler mirror mount to my tool box can i use a 4' antenna? Its a steel weatherguard, dont want to bend it up.

don't forget to put a spring on it! try to find a good stainless spring as the chrome ones rust in about a week.

i had mine mounted with a mount that clamps on to like a mirror bar. just take off one side and bolt the other to the tool box. works like a charm.

now i have the flush with bed rails size tool box and havent mounted the antenna yet, or the CB for that matter which is a whole nuther matter with that frickin console.

I don't think you'll bend up a steel weatherguard. But put a spring on it in case you do hit something with the antenna. And I second the notion of the SS spring, the chrome ones plain suck.

Here's a place

It's just the first link on the firestik site.

If you are going to mount a CB antenna on the toolbox, make sure you ground the toolbox lid with wire braid and tooth washers. If you don't mind drilling holes, you can do a 3/8" hole mount. If you are worried about bending the toolbox lid, put fender washers on both sides of the stud mount.

I am a ham radio operator and I opted for my HF antenna to be mounted on the bed rail with a hole mount through the bed rail and through the diamond plate rail guard. For my other antennas, I go through the roof and use NMO or Motorola mounts as you can get just about *any* antenna that will fit that type mount.

Texas Towers, Amateur Electronic Supply, Ham Radio Outlet all sell the good stainless springs. The ones I have are by Hustler.

Thanks guys, I used a Firestik Mirror mount. Looks AWESOME!! as soon as i can find a digi camera ill post pics on my cardomain page. Do I need to ground my toolbox, if so the best way???? Seems to get awesome range.

Firestik makes two SS springs, a medium duty and a heavy duty. I have the 4 foot "chop to tune" black fiberglass whip with the red tip. What is better the medium duty spring or heavy duty. Thanks for all your help guys!!!
