: Pulled the Fuse!
shadow 06-03-2005, 05:45 PM Had to move my rig around today to get the trailer ready for a road trip with the wife, bloodhounds and two horses. I was out of the Kodiak moving stuff around when I heard what sounded like the air tank blow valve. Yikes! I ran to the truck and everything seemed fine except I heard the compressor still running. After start up it usually runs about 30 seconds. I shut the engine off but the compressor kept running. I mean with no key. The only way I could shut it off is to pull the fuse. Anyone know if that fuse controls anything else and is this a problem someone else has had?
Blkvoodoo 06-03-2005, 07:12 PM crawl up under the step and find the relay, pull it, replace the fuse, I do not remember what all it controls but it is stuff you'd like to have if I remember correctly. ( unfortunatly, you'll not have air ride seat once the air bleeds off )
Relay and pressure switch issues are pretty common, the relay is usually stocked as it is used for other app's as well. The pressure switch would probably have to be ordered unless your dealer has seen the issue in the past and has any sort of forthought (heh heh yeah right ).
Have them replace both, there is a bulletin about the problem ( and if I had a GM Id of my own I would post it )

shadow 06-04-2005, 04:39 PM Thanks Kevin. Your right. It controls the exaust brake too. I looked at it and the two air lines that come out of the tank go to the cab and the exaust brake. I'm planning on combining the air ride tank and the air seat tanks with a $1.47 T fitting. I've already had two relays go out. One in Canada and the other sitting at the dealer. Now I can't get it to shut off! I think the pressure switch went out. Now I found out the brakes have a recall!
Blkvoodoo 06-04-2005, 08:31 PM recall on the brakes ? oh goody, do tell, haven't heard of this one I don't think !
anything to do with the rears wearing out in 30k ?

GM RECALL #O4010
GM RECALL #05006 Hydro-Boost Assembly
Something about dealer to perform a test on the assembly and a linkage issue. No biggie. If it fails, you have no brakes. Shop said they're aware of it and will check it Weds. when I take it in for my run away compressor.
latemodelracer2 06-05-2005, 03:49 PM is the recall on all 04's?
shadow 06-05-2005, 04:02 PM Late, I went to the nhtsa website and did the search on my year truck and that's what came up.
www.nhtsa.dot.gov (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov)
I really like jacking them up at the dealer when I go in with TSB's in hand.

DEALERS WHO HAVE INVOLVED VEHICLES AT AN UPFITTER/BODY BUILDER ARE TO CONTACT THEM IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE THE VEHICLE(S) INSPECTED.

Condition
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2004 model year Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick vehicles. Some of these vehicles are missing a retainer that holds the brake booster push rod and the brake pedal together. If the retainer is missing, the push rod and pedal could separate resulting in a loss of foundation brakes. If this condition occurs where stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur.
<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1469318&evc=numSrch#ss2-1469318">Correction
Dealers are to inspect for the presence of the brake switch retainer and install a new retainer if it is missing.

General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2004 Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick; 2004-2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado, Suburban; GMC Savana, Sierra, Yukon XL; and HUMMER H2 vehicles. On some of these vehicles, the hydraulic brake booster’s pressure accumulator may crack and/or separate from the Hydro-Boost® assembly during normal vehicle operating conditions. If a separation were to occur and the hood of the vehicle were open, fragments from the accumulator could cause injury to people in the immediate area. In addition, the presence of this crack or fractured surface could allow the hydraulic fluid to leak from the accumulator circuit of the booster assembly. The loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort.

jgreenlees 06-07-2005, 11:11 PM As a G.M. tech have the dealer replace the relay and the pressure switch, the hydroboost recall has nothing to do with the air compressor for the exhaust brake and air ride seat.
shadow 06-09-2005, 01:59 PM I knew that. Thanks anyway. It's going in Monday. Press. switch is bad and their going to do the recall stuff too. I,m willing to bet water has something to do with it. I pull the air valve to release the moisture more often than normal and get alot out. It's pretty humid this time of year.
Mike Root 06-24-2005, 11:29 PM I have a 2004 Diesel Endura Motor-Home by Gulf Stream; it's built on the Kodiak 5500 cab & chassis. I have experienced this same issue. After 10 months of the dealer attempting to fix it, GM finialy engineered a new pressure Switch and regulator. Our Coach was the first in the Nation! to have the new parts installed. Problum Solved!!
Call Brad Springer, Service Manager, for Gerry Chambers Chevrolet Located in Bellingham, WA. 1-800-842-3787 Brad, knows the part numbers needed for the fix.

latemodelracer2 07-23-2005, 05:46 PM old post but mines acting up now
I have air to the rear bags on the truck and the compressor comes on but no air to the seats. Is there two compressors onboard or a electric valve the isnt opening to fill the seat tank up? Also is there a fuse or relay i can check?
shadow 08-07-2005, 03:21 PM Late, sorry I couldn't get back to you pronto. Couldn't get the site to come up. You probably have found out by now that the truck has two compressors. The stock compr. is under the drivers seat. Only controls the air seats and the exaust brake. (Probably know this already) I try to blow the water out every time I use the truck. Sensor was bad due to the water build up. Previous owner. Second compr. handles the air ride only. (Probably knew that too.) When the warranty runs I'm going to run a line to the seat compr. and eliminate the pump all together. Ran a brass T to the small tank when the compr. took a dump in Canada. The air ride compr. is heavy duty and supply air for both.

Thanks man after a quick look under the truck i noticed there are two comps onboard so i got the multimeter out and found it was the relay on the stock compressor gone bad.
