My buddy in Spokane had his tuner stolen and now needs an option to get his truck back to stock. Rather than go to the dealership to get it reflashed, can someone in the Spokane area with EFI Live reflash it for him back to stock? Any tuners in this area? Also, dont 2006+ trucks have a different operating system that stores tunes in the ecm so that dealers can see if the truck has ever had a tune in it? If thats the case, maybe its easier for him just to take it to the dealership since his warranty would be voided regardless?

From the reading here GM can tell on the Bosch ECM in the 2006 LLY, 2006-2007 LBZ, and 2007.5 LMM can record the checksum of the tune. Yes anyone with EFILive Flashscan can reprogram your buddies if they have a stock tune of the OS it was using. If it is 2006 or newer then it requires the Flashscan V2 since it is canbus compliant. The V1 version will not work on one newer 2006 versions. But one has to use a license to tune the ECM and that be $99 for the license. I would say anyone with a commercial stream probably charge the same. So that give you an idea on that. Hopefully your buddy has contacted EFILive and let them know it was stolen and gave them the serial number. If they get someone that goes to add additional license it will be black flagged and may be able to recover it. That is if it was an EFILive flashscan. Even if a different programmer they won't be able to get use it until it is unlocked from your buddy's truck.

Thanks for the info, and sorry if there is any confusion, the tuner that was stolen was a superchips tuner.

Is it possible to purchase EFI Live from a vendor with a stock tune preloaded? Im assuming that it is possible to get a stock tune from somewhere using the VIN?

There are several vendors that sell EFILive Flashscan V2. I only have dealt with Nick from Duramaxtuner.com. But there are others in the vendor list. Your looking at about $800 for the Flashscan V2. Download the latest public beta from EFILive and update the flashscan firmware. And then you be set and able to tune 2 ECM/PCM and 2 TCM with the 2 included licenses. Need more then $99 for each one to do 1 ECM/PCM and 1 TCM. With Nick you get a couple tunes and lots of help.

Another option is purchase a programmed ECM from the vendors that do that.

There is no tunes with the Flashscan or EFILive. But there is a library here with many stock ECM os versions. What I do not know is if the Superchips will allow you to read the tune on the ECM or at least figure out the OS version it has. But you should be able to full flash one of the OS for the truck engine version and be pretty well set. Just set the VIN and do a full flash.

One last thing since I never done this is if locked a tuner whether a full flash will overwrite the ECM. That I have never done or asked. Maybe a EFILive tuner here can say if ECM is locked to a tuner that it will be able to overwrite it. You just may not be able to read it. You may wish to have a Moderator move this to the EFILive section for possible better help.
