The blackhole in my driveway needs a new turbo. Looking for opinions on where to get a rebuilt unit. I have a 1998 6.5 suburban. I live in eastern pa. Thanks in advance...

Diesel Pro, I've searched the net like everywhere and can't find one. I know in the past, I could buy a cartridge for my 2.3 Ford turbo, but can't seem to find anyone that sells one for the GM 8. Any clues where to look?

What does the compressor turbine look like? The K&N and your turbo failure makes me nervous. As dirty as my turbo is from the prior owner’s K&N.

My intake was filthy when i had a K&N filter in the truck. I switched to a paper filter and the intake was clean. Now I have an Amsoil dry filter in the truck and the intake is just as clean as the paper filter.

The K&N was the only filter to make my intake filthy. You may get better airflow, but you loose filtration. Sacrificing filtration for a gain in airflow is never a good thing.

I'm pretty sure the turbo was ready to hurl soon after I drove it home. I will, however, toss it out and put a paper one back on when I reassemble the whole thing as I haven't seen any advantages to keeping it. They worked in my gas vehicles, but I never found any evidence they improved anything in diesel applications. I guess the moral of the story is any work you do is a "modification" and any work the previous owner did is a "rig job" :)
