Changing oil the other day and noticed that both front driveshaft seals are leaking where the front drive shafts goes into the transfer case. Drivers side is leaking quite a bit.

Is it difficult for a DYI to change the seals? This is one of those things I've never had the occassion to do and would appreciate some guidance. How does the front axle come apart? After driveshaft removal, do you then just pop out the old seal and put the new one in like a main rear driveshaft seal?

Thanks!

Rob

You are talking about the front wheel drive shafts where they go into the front axle right? Not the drive shaft that goes from the axle to the transfer case? If so then it is a relatively easy job for an experienced DIYer. After removing the wheel drive shafts the drivers side axle will come out with a few swift blows from a hammer. The passenger side comes apart by taking off the axle tube where it connects to the differential.
