Today I was driving to work and my DIC showed "low coolant level". Not a big deal since it happened the other week. Then my engine temp rose to 210 degrees BUT it is -25 degrees here, yes negative 25 degrees. Also, I had no heat the entire drive to work. I have never had that happen before. So right now I have it sitting in the garage at work thawing out so I can look at her. ANy ideas?

How low was it when the light was on before? How much did you add, and is it low again? What is the strength that it tests at?

sounds like a bad head gasket and you are buring out the coolant?

Last time I added maybe 3-4 cups when the lights came on. I haven't check how low it is right now cause i'm at work but I will here in a bit. What strengh test are you talking about? Not sure I know.

The freeze/boiling point strength (little turkey baster thing with the tube on it and little "disks" in it). If it is not strong enough, or TOO strong, it can be freezing up or gelling up at that temp and not circulating properly. You may want to get that checked.....

Just check the coolant bottle and it said it was good down to -34. I have the 50/50 bottle. I took the skid plate off and there was a countinueous drip (think if your kitchen sink was barely on in the winter so your pipes don't freeze) coming from the bottom of the radiator (I believe). It was hard to tell because it was dripping below the fan blades and coming out there and I can't reach any furth up there.. Either I have a hole or it might of burst. I bought some radiator sealant and coolant that is rated down to -84. I will keep you posted.

Take that radiator sealant and throw it as far away as you can. That crap will only cause more serious problems down the road. Do the job right and replace the hose or repair the radiator which ever is the problem.

Just found the problem......there is a thumb size hole about six inches from the bottom. Will I have to get a new radiator? Also what do radiators cost for the Dmax?

Yes you will need a new rad. or atleast recore it if you want a go a little cheaper route(if you can find a shop to do it). I would also bet your antifreeze is gelling up -25 is damn close to -34 it tested at. I had my old 94 gell up on me and it had the same symptoms except for the coolant light. My coolant was set to -25 and it was only -10ish when I had no heat and slush/jello like aintifreeze coming out of the rad when I tried to drain it.

I found two holes in the radiator and I plugged them with gum! lol So far it is working and, hopefully it will hold until Monday.
