Shortly I'm going to be faced with shipping a set of six dually wheels. I have to imagine that shipping those via UPS is incredibly expensive, so I was curious if those of you out there have found a solution or method to minimize shipping cost on our ginormous wheels and tires?

I ship via UPS Freight. It is NOT bad. Average for 4 oversized wheels and tires (35" tire x 22 wheel) is about $280-350. This was next day delivery mind you. Stack them 1 or 2 pallets, wrap with stretch wrap, band to pallet. Simple.

FEDEX is cheaper IIRC. Was only an extra $100 or less when I got my tires shipped to me.

You guys are right on the money. UPS Freight, freightquote.com, etc, all gave very reasonable numbers.
