: Gauge?
Moneypitt 11-21-2009, 01:14 PM I am getting a 09 Chevy and have questions about getting gauges, I know I need an EGT gauge but what about boost? is it needed. And is it a good idea to get a tranny temp gauge as well , will it be more accurate than the factory gauge.
Thanks for the help,
Stacey
DSTRBD 11-21-2009, 01:52 PM Pyro and boost are the two most popular single gauge sets we sell for the Duramax. However, most people are going with the Edge Insight monitor as it is a VERY easy install and monitors a ton of parameters. It does nothing for power, its just a gauge package. Here is some more info on it. If you want to monitor EGTs, dont forget the optional pyro probe as it is not included.

Moneypitt 11-21-2009, 02:12 PM What about Dypricol gauges, any good? these are what the stealer is offering to install included in the price of the truck.
DSTRBD 11-21-2009, 02:18 PM Di Pricol gauges are nice gauges, they are what I had on my LLY. I never had a problem with them and they looked good.
AlligatorPerformance 11-21-2009, 02:54 PM I currently run DiProcols in my truck, they look awesome and are very quick to react.
Moneypitt 11-21-2009, 08:51 PM Thanks guys I should have the truck around Dec. 3rd if all goes well:) I am sure I will need stuff:D
WVHunter 11-21-2009, 08:56 PM For what reason would you need guages? Your new truck allready has safety features to avoid catastrophies.
Bartman432 11-21-2009, 10:38 PM I wouldn't worry about getting an aftermarket trans gauge. The factory one seems to work well. Same your money for other stuff.............it's like a money pit..........once you buy your gauges it just snowballs on you. :D

Yep I just went with the Pyro and Boost, and I am sure it will turn into a Moneypit:rolleyes: just like my AR collection:D
wildcatbrownhound 11-22-2009, 05:18 PM :)I have a Dashhawk and A Insight. They are both made by MSD Ignition. There is not a lot of difference in them. They will tell you all you need to know. Plugs into the OBD port. About $300.00. You get software to program them on a PC. (Windows XP ONLY) Wont work on Vista. Hope this helps.:)
KWICK66 11-22-2009, 09:02 PM i went with the additional tranny temp gauge on my LMM.. If you do any towing (Hence the fact that it IS a diesel) you would want to keep an eye on that tranny temp. id rather have the gauge visible at all times then clicking through the dash. why be a cheap arss when you are driving a $40k-50k truck! lol

LmannyR 11-23-2009, 10:05 AM Those wont work on my truck....dam....Guess I'll need the old school gauges.

LOL! I read thru the whole Edge description and then go to the end. Dam won't work on my truck either!

Have you looked at AutoMeter Nexus line? I've been looking at gauges also and had those on my list.
LmannyR 11-23-2009, 01:48 PM Yea, sucks. I think I'll go with autometer gauges mounted on the Kennedy place overhead mount. I'll mount the egt probe on the driver side manifold. If it cracks, then I'll replace with a bd man.
Not sure where to install the boost sensor though. Where is the stock boost sensor on the new tucks?

Have you looked at the Bully Dog Watchdog? It is a digital gauge that works on all OBD-II vehicles from 96 and up - You will need to order the optional EGT Probe http://www.alligatorperformance.com/product_info.php?products_id=4009
Or if you need Autometer gauges in a Billet Socal diesel mount, we have those too.
Here's a good option for tapping your boost, Super Diesel Manifold. 5 minute install, no drilling or tapping required http://www.alligatorperformance.com/product_info.php?products_id=3717

LMMKING 11-23-2009, 01:58 PM Isspro has a new line of gauges that match the cluster, take a look in my garage.
LmannyR 11-23-2009, 02:08 PM Does the watch dog fit in the overhead console? If not, where are they being mounted in my truck?
jedmax 11-23-2009, 04:15 PM Boost and pyro are the most popular combination but if you're runnng a stock truck, boost isn't a prerequisite guage. But then again, if you're planning on modifying your ride in the future, then add it.
Just an opinion so don't flame me. :weld:
LmannyR 11-23-2009, 04:26 PM I tow 10k lbs 1-2 times a week and soon may be 16k. I'll add the boost/pyro combo but would consider watchdog depending on install location and looks.

I saw 'em out in Vegas... man, they look nice!
Moneypitt 11-23-2009, 07:53 PM Where does the sensor for the transmission temp go?

No I was looking at Di Pricol because that is what the stealer installs, at this point I am not having them put the gauges in as they wanted an extra $580.00 for just the trans temp, they said they have to install a deep pan on the trany to do it. I will just get the gauges later and probably install them myself.

It gives you a much better idea on how hard the engine is working when you are towing. If you saw the difference in exhaust temps between an empty truck and when you're towing you'd understand why. There are no safety features for that. If you're towing or tuning the truck most members here will agree guages are a must.
