: What Do You Guys Think About This Price For A New D/A?
RICKYY 06-02-2005, 11:52 PM I keep thinking about a new Duramax and GM just made their employee discount program available to EVERYONE!
I just priced one on CarsDirect and I can get an 05 Duramax/Allison, EC/LT 4X4 for $34,886 + tax and license. I also got two internet quotes from two local dealers for the same truck and their prices were $35,208 and $35,243.
The only thing holding me back is I bought a new 1500, EC/LT 4X4 last year and I am $3,000 upside down. It is a great truck and I really like it but I've got a strong hankering for a DEEZIL:) By the way, this is not a matter of need, just a matter of want
What do some of you expert horse traders think????
dwrat 06-03-2005, 12:26 AM If you don't need it for towing, I would not go for it. Now on the other hand, if you will be towing something big go for it. My 2002 1500 got over 20 MPG empty on the road and this diesel empty will only get about 18 MPG.
srode 06-03-2005, 07:17 AM Don't know about horses, but that's a great price if you ask me! Sounds like about $5000 less than they were in '04
JJs DuMax 06-03-2005, 08:49 AM I always have a hard time justifying vehicle purchases since they are all depreciating assets. I sort of look at it like this: I'm always going to have a payment, I'll drive WTF I want to! ):h
Have you driven one of these trucks yet? If so you know what you are missing and it will eat at you! ;) If not, don't drive one, keep your 1500 if you are happy with it and it is meeting your needs. ;)
As for those numbers is that their drive-out price to include dealer prep, admin fees, tag/title, etc. Dealers are infamous for giving low-ball prices like these at/or below invoice then making their money on these fees. If you decide to buy save yourself some time/grief and get a written "out-the-door" quote signed by a sales manager, not a salesman. Good luck. JJ :)
Biterman 06-03-2005, 09:00 AM The purchase price is just the beginning, if you don't know this already. These things are easy to mod and highly addictive. I just added up how much I have in my truck and could have bought my wife that S-class Mercedes she wants.
They are a lot of fun! Oh, and BTW, I tow a big Toyhauler about 10 times per year. Besides that, this is my daily driver and I traded in my 04 Cadi CTSV for it. I would not trade back for anything.
My prediction: Duallys aint just for hauling anymore! AND they look INSANE when tricked out! Jay Leno has a tricked out Top-kick he just did. I saw him running around town the other day. SWEET!!
JJs DuMax 06-03-2005, 10:51 AM Biterman,
You may be the winner in the "mods" category. Have you posted any pictures of the beast? JJ :)
5150 Duramax 06-03-2005, 04:18 PM Sounds like a fair price in my opinion since the sticker on an LT/EC is probably 9K-10K more than that. I was in the same situation you are in now. When I serviced my truck at the Dealer I decided to drive the D/A....I never really looked back. I just waited for the right place, time, and price.
For now, Im not pulling anything with it......I am fairly certain that a large percentage of D/A owners are not pulling much, so, if you drive it and love it.....BUY IT! You won't regret it! You only live once!
Kappa9012 06-03-2005, 05:07 PM I bought mine for right about 35 g's with my supplier discount. Plus 1500 in rebates.
aka108 06-03-2005, 05:26 PM If you want the thing get it so long as it doesn't take food off the table or screw up you house payment. No matter how schrewd a deal you make on a vehicle, it's going to cost you money.
I had a 1500 (few years old) prior to getting the 2500 HD with duramax and allison. I also bought a 10,000 lb. trailer: now with that said I would not get the 2500HD with diesel power if you have no serious work for it. Just driving for transportation, I would take a half ton over a three quarter ton any day!
rich1520 06-06-2005, 01:39 AM First post. Just brought home my 2500 D/A today. I looked at a bunch of the inventory here in Phoenix, all the prices were the same depending upon the vehicle options. I took one that was 34.5K before taxes, 38K out the door.
I really like this truck, but have fallen to the dark side before (Jeeps) and am hoping I can keep it stock for a while.
But, the price can't be beat, hell, the Dodge guys are almost paying this much.
Rich
JJs DuMax 06-06-2005, 01:57 AM Welcome to the DP Family. Enjoy your truck! Stock? ):h :funnypost :D ):h JJ :)
DmaxTDI 06-06-2005, 04:21 PM I saw a recent advert. and it said everyone get the GM employee discount and you get to keep the rebates/incentives.
I did the GM employee discount awhile back and, in hindsight, it wasn't much better than what I could've shopped arond for.
FireandFleet 06-06-2005, 10:08 PM Thats the same price they were giving me with a 3500 D/A with a 9' tool body. I got a 4500 with a 11' body for 42,500 all power, crome, exh brake, etc
SteveNorCal 06-06-2005, 10:30 PM I keep thinking about a new Duramax and GM just made their employee discount program available to EVERYONE!

RICKYY,
First of all, I did the same thing last year. Traded my 03' 1500 LT in for my 04.5' Dmax and never looked back. :)
Secondly, it doesn't make any difference what everyone else thinks, it's ALL up to you! (P.S. I can almost guarntee you'll never look back if you go for it.) :ro)
And the price sounds very good!
DmaxTDI 06-07-2005, 12:53 PM Think I'd wait for the '06.
RICKYY 06-08-2005, 02:51 AM Thanks for all of your opinions, these prices are good to 5 July so I've got a month to think about it:) . I might just wait for an 06:cool: .
Rick
mikechev 06-08-2005, 07:13 AM Hi,
New to forum and to the wonderful world of diesel pickups.
I finally jumped into a 2005 2500HD D/A this weekend. $36,200 out the door.
The only problem is my fuel budget keeps going up because I can't stop driving this addictive beast.
Pull a 5th wheel and now will be able to go through the mountains without having to red line my 6.0 gasser that I traded.
great forum....
