I got a oversized replacement tank for my 2004 Duramax Crewcab Short Bed I can now hold 62 Gallons, which is nice because I put a lot of miles on mine, and it is great to stock up on fuel when I find it at a good price. I don't know all the places where you can get them but I got mine at a place called Supertanks, they're phone # is 801-773-8246, I beleive they ship anywhere in the U.S.

P.S. I have a 8" lift and 33" tires, anyone know where I can get some good looking mudflaps?Edited by: DieselMax

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif DieselMax Can you give us some more info on your tank: Could not find them listed on the Internet and when I called them I could not get an answer - maybe it is the holiday.

Web address, where are they located, cost, etc???

I am looking for a larger tank for my 2004 ext cab, gas and Transfer Flow says it will be at least 6 months before a "gas" tank is ready for the 2004 models (emission requiremnts) and then it will only be 45 gallons. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

I believe they are in Utah, I don't know if they have a website. But I do know that the tanks are only for diesel's and not gas. I would guess that they are closed down for the hoildays.

Here's my 60 gal tank in the bed. Its gravity feed to the main tank. 86 gals total with approx. 1600 mile range. I had the face of the tank sprayed with Line-X since I had the tank out to do the bed.

I bought a 53 gallon tank from Aero Tanks.

http://www.aerotanks.com/

I'm very happy with it. I never like to run out of diesel, and often stations are closed on Sundays.

My range has doubled. I get 650-800 miles depending on the speed I drive (70-90). My best so far is 825 without trying very hard. Coming cross country, I filled up in Dayton, Ohio and drove around for weeks after I got home to Connecticut.

I've considered putting a bed tank in also. I like the idea of being able to drive cross country with only one fill up.

I thought about getting an in the bed tank but I didn't want to sacrifice the bed space, the 62 gallon replacement tank it is perfect for me, I think they (Supertanks) even have a 75 gallon replacement tank, but I am not sure.

P.S. Maverick, nice pics looks like you have a nice set-up.

DieselMax: The 62 gallon "Supertank" is significantly larger than the 45 gallon TransferFlow midship replacement tank (which is the max for a short bed D/A). Needless to say, I'm VERY interested. But like Shark Bait, I couldn't find ANY info on the web, and when I called the number on Friday the message did not sound like it was Supertanks-- are you SURE the number you posted was correct? Do you still have your reciept? Maybe it has a web address or something...?

Some have mentioned that the TransferFlow tank sticks down below the frame by an inch or so... which is a concern, especially when off-roading. What about your Supertank? Does it stick down below the frame? If so, by how much? Could you post any pics?

Thanks!
Paul.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif Just got off of the phone with Supertanks. The phone number posted by DieselMax is correct:

Phone 1-801-773-8246: FAX 1-801-773-8247

They are developing a web site, but is not up yet.

Supertanks currently only makes tanks for diesel, no gas yet.

Capacities (I think this is correct): SB Ext 58 Gal, SB CC 62 Gal, LB 75 Gal.

Sounds like they are a farily new company that is interested in expending their product line. They indicate they are interested in making gasoline tanks so -

ALL OF US GAS OWNERS NEED TO CONTACT THEM AND ASK THEM TO SPEED UP DEVELOPMENT OF THE 58 GAL GAS TANK FOR THE EXT CAB. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Dieselmax,

YES!!! Pictures pleeeeeeease!!!

I talked to someone at Supertanks. The tanks are made out of plastic (like OEM), but he said they were twice as thick, and have an elongation factor of 400% (they'll expand to FOUR times their size before breaking). He mentioned also that there is some type of plate (like a skid plate) which holds it up, so there's not just a rectangular tank sticking down under the frame (all the edges and corners of the tank are protected ABOVE the plate-- great idea). He mentioned that the plate does stick down below the frame, about the same as a TransferFlow tank, but again... it's a plate. If the plate is scraped, the tank is fine... and if the plate is dented/compressed in, the plastic tank has plenty of expansion capability. Seems practical to me, but what do I know... they are out of Utah and they've only been making these for about 6 months.

Seven year warranty, and the cost, including shipping, is:

$795 dealers
$995 retail

I hope my mechanic will be willing to become a "dealer"...
The rep at SuperTanks is mailing me a sheet with some info. Sound promising. Any thoughts?

For a CC/SB, the 62 gallon tank provides following ranges:

1362 miles @ 22MPG
1240 miles @ 20MPG
1116 miles @ 18MPG
992 miles @ 16MPG
868 miles @ 14MPG
744 miles @ 12MPG
620 miles @ 10MPG

Not bad! And... it's not in the truck bed, so you save the space!

Paul.

I figure ultimatly the tank will pay for itself due to how much I can save on fuel by stocking up when I see it at a good price.

I called again, and they do not currently have a fill neck upgrade, but the rep indicated that it is definitely high the "to do" list. The GM tanks have been out for about 6 months, and now the highest focus for their engineers is designing tanks for Ford trucks. He didn't mention Dodge, but that might come next after Ford.

A retrofit fill neck could always be bought/installed later, although it would be convenient to do everything at the same time.

Here are the images, I apologize for the snow, I was waiting for the wather to clear up, but it didn't. This shows how low it actually hangs, it has a protective pan that supports the entire tank, which is a silver color, I think some guys paint theirs black. You can see that it is still well above the axels as well as some of my lift supports.

Yikes! that baby is BIG! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif What happens to the fuel cooler? I have an in-bed aux tank and my 6-way valve is on the frame rail in front of the OEM there as well as my dual remote oil filter further forward. How far forward does that thing run? Can't really tell from the photos.

DieselMax
01-08-2004, 08:44 PM
The tank sits about as far back as the original, and goes about six feet forward, they packed in all the space thy could. The fuel chiller has to be removed to fit the new tank, and to compensate for that, they use a metal return line with heat fins about every 1/4" which runs the entire lenght of the tank; it's pretty cool how they did it.

Peperridge- I don't know how it would do with the nicktane kit, it might do just fine.

here is a picture of the tank before it was installed, if anyone wants to see.

I drove to California. I was going out there anyway, and my Aunt lived near AeroTanks. My Uncle had just died and she needed some help on her place, so I combined the trip for the tank with work on her place.

Aero Tanks was told it would take two days to get the tank installed. They told me the made each tank custom. That was a lie. It was ready in two hours, not two days. It took me longer to eat lunch than it did for them to put it in.

I don't know what the Transflow looks like, so it's hard for me to compare. Looking at my AeroTank from the side, you cannot see it. I would guess it is flush with the frame rails. If you want I'll take a picture and post it. Let me know.

What's the cost for the Transflo?

maxinDixon

Transferflow is $716 until the 15th of Jan when it goes up 40 bux more. That is the short bed tank price.

I would love to see some pics if you have the time. Looks like AERO doesn't have a replacement filler neck...or do they?

DieselDave, I installed a 90 degree ball valve to the tank and ran half inch ID hose through the bed floor. I cut my filler neck in half and shorted it by 2 inches. I installed a 1 7/8 piece of black pipe (3" long) with a nut welded on so I could screw on a 1/2 OD barbed fitting to accept the 1/2 ID rubber hose.

A little of what I know about them, Supertanks is out of Idaho Falls. Web site is www. supertanks.com (go figure)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

Local Dealer install is $895. I have asked Nick about conflict with his filter, and his reply is that it is OK. Tank is inside frame, nick's filter is out side the frame rails, hose runs should be no problem. Any way I will find out. Takes the dealer about 3 hours to install.

GM does, check out a 3600 chassis/cab sometime (-:
Be careful putting tanks behind rear axles, I think it is no longer legal for the manufacturers to do it on consumer vehicles and you might have problems at inspection time if you do it yourself. OTOH, you might find the rear 3600 tank and fittings/fixtures would fit, heck the holes might even line up

Hey Night Sailor, spoke to a woman today at Aerotanks about a replacement tank for the Duramax. She told me the same thing, that it would be at least a day and a half because each tank is custom made. There are different drive shafts on our trucks so she never knows which tank to ship. Glad to hear your wait wasn’t long. I will be in the Corona area over the weekend but they will be closed so, no go. She quoted a price of $1099.15 out the door for a 48 gal tank for my short bed. Seems a bit high. She also said that it was Aero Tanks that helped Transfer Flow get their business started. It all sounds a bit strange to me. I’m not sure I want to do business with a company that can’t spell Duromax correctly on their web site.
Still want to know for sure which tanks are compatible with a Nicktane kit. I know transfer flow is but how about Supertanks and Aerotanks? Does anybody know?

1). Any idea where I can get one in Alberta ? Or at least get one installed ?

2). Any ideas on affordable ways to get a tank shipped from the US to Canada ? (Fedex Freight wants about $250USD for shipping alone)

3). Are these tanks approved for use in Canada ?

4). What approvals do the tanks have in the US ?

Hi Rudy,
I am going ahead but do not have the tank yet. I am using Dale Evans automotive in Calgary. They are quoting 1595 CDN installed + freight. They are planning to ship by truck and have gotten shipping quotes between 175 and 260 CDN.

As far as I can tell, under 449 litres, there are no specific regulatory issues. Over 450 litres, you need to get periodic inspections. I will post when I get it installed.

Hi,

We just got back from vaction having towed a trailer and are looking to upgrade the fuel tank also. We called the local dealer about upgrading and were informed that GM dose not have anything, and that GM WOULD NOT APPROVE of a fuel tank modification.

Looking at the supertank I know that any Tech that looks under the truck will know what has been done, so will this void the warrenty of the truck?

Also how will this effect the DIC information on how many miles you have left to drive on your tank and any other functions?

It would be nice to get the bigger tank but I may have to wait for the warrenty to expire before I do. At this rate though it will only take us about 30 months to put 100K on the truck <grin>.

Been hav'n too much foun with our new truck.
