i have been reading alot of diesel mags and seen some people with the fass systems and the airdogs what are they designed to do? a noob question sorry

They relieve stress off the Cp3. (injection pump) The Duramax does not have a factory lift pump, so the Cp3 is forced to pull the fuel. By adding a lift pump you are pushing the fuel to the Cp3. The Airdog and Fass have a additional fuel filter and water fuel seperator. This makes sure you only get pure fuel to the injection pump.

ok i thought fass was i wasnt sure on airdog, but they add power by helping relive stress on the cp3? little of topis but is there a cp4 and whats the difference if there is?

There is such a thing, but it is technology not currently found on any production Duramax.

And yes and no on the power question. Under normal tuning, a FASS or Air Dog won't add any power because the injection pump doesn't require any more fuel than what's necessary. But when you throw large performance programs into the mix, the mechanical lift pump on the back of the CP3 can't suck enough fuel to supply the demand, so you are leaving HP on the table w/o a lift pump.

Both the Air Dog and the FASS do similar things, separate air from the fuel to give a cleaner fuel burn.
