Okay. I am sure that this has been asked about ten thousand times on this thread, but I have been searching for the last hour and haven't found what I am looking for. I have an 06' LLY and I am wanting to change the serp belt. However it looks a little more difficult than most belts I have swapped out on other vehicles/tractors. Do I have to remove the fan shroud to get the belt out or is there an easier way? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If your 06 is like my 04, you should not have to remove the shroud. There is a 1/2 inch square hole in the belt tensioner, you just place a 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar in that hole , stand on the passenger side of the truck and pull towards you. The tensioner will release the more you put pressure on it . While holding the bar , lift the belt off the alternator first and the rest will come off easily. reverse process with installing the belt on the alternator last while holding the tensioner, release tensioner and all done. charlie

I was also searching this afternoon for info, and your post is the only one I found with relevant information. I just got finished changing mine and all I can say is "What a bitch"! I had to remove the air box, part of the EGR down-tube, and the plastic air dam underneath the truck. I also needed a 2nd person putting pressure on the tensioner while I aligned the belt on the engine crank from underneath the truck.

When you attempt this, expect to get your hands and arms extremely greasy from reaching into crevices that you can barely see into, even in the light of day. The whole job took me about 1½ hours since it was my first time, but I expect I can do it quicker now.

So to summarize, it's an extreme pain in the ass. But there's always the satisfaction in knowing it's done right.
