: 4X4 launch
IGO1320 11-19-2009, 03:52 PM Has anyone tried launching in 4X4 with mild turner as long as I do not let it tire hop do you think tie rods will last for 3 or 4 runs. I don't have a prayer getting it to hook up in 2WD for any representitive runs......I just want to see it run a high 14 once.
teamblueyam450 11-19-2009, 04:57 PM Lower the T-bars down all the way and you will be fine!!
hogpenpuller 11-19-2009, 06:35 PM I have a "safe tow tune" EFI live in my truck and we have probably 30 hard 4 wheel drive launches and no problems. I want to get tie rod sleeves but I haven't bent anything yet, so no hurry for me.
You 'll see in my sig my results of two wheel launch, I thought no way this will spin on a prepped track, ......I was wrong..LOL, use four wheel drive and if your worried, don't launch too hard for the first few times, I would think if something is going to break, it will in your first run. Have fun !!
jonathancasey19 11-19-2009, 06:55 PM It's worth spending the 80 or so bucks for sleeves. Save you the embarrassment and the tow truck home.
LWATSON 11-19-2009, 07:09 PM I guarantee the sleeves are cheaper than new tierods.
hogpenpuller 11-20-2009, 10:12 AM Sleeves on the way !!! Not just for racing but for curbs too LOL
JustinD 11-20-2009, 10:21 AM The sleeves were a good investment, you might wanna consider Idler/Pitman arm braces too. If not for racing they made my steering feel alot tighter.

Keep in mind, you went during the week when the track prep isn't to good. If you would have went on the weekend, when the really good guy does the prep you would have no problems in 2 wheel drive. And IIRC, I think you said you went at nighttime, and the dew at Cayuga at night is terrible... I tried making a couple of test passes on a Fri. night before a big weekend, and needless to say, no more of that for me!!!! 3 or 4 cars hit the wall that night too..
JustinD 11-21-2009, 08:34 AM You will have problems in 2 wheel drive no matter who preps the track, these trucks won't hook in 2wd.

X2.....The only way to launch in 2wd is non-boosted. In a moderately high hp truck you would still rip loose possibly crashing into the wall. Kinda defeats the purpose of achieving a fast time. In my eyes, it's counter-productive and dangerous.
Horsehaulin 11-21-2009, 03:15 PM Put sleeves on, you wont regret it!

You are right in your post but what I have to say is that I don't believe that I could lay any respepectable times down in two wheel drive. I have tried all road surfaces for launching and it will break loose 1st, 2nd, into third gear every time in 2wd. Maybe with slicks it might work, but this is a mid 14 second truck, not a racetruck, just out to have some fun.
Anyone really know how much loss is seen by using 4x4 as opposed to a truck that will hook up in two wheel drive ??
