I am preparing to do a SaS on my 01 DMax because the stock front suspension is a sub standard piece of garbage and im tired of it. I need to know what axels I can use to do my swap. I dont want a huge lift and i want to use leaf springs not a 4 link. I do a lot of plowing in the winter and not all that much off roading but use my 4wd in the winter.
I will be building most of the components to save money too.
So what is the best way to do this for the money and why.

I would use a kingpin ford dana 60. ORU I believe sells the spring mounts and in my oppinion would save a ton of time granted if you have time on your side to play around with mounts etc.. not hard to do.. I believe their setup uses superduty springs as well.

The plow mounts are right where the front leaf hanger will be if you go leafs.

Good point on the plow mounts thats one more thing I will have to modify. I would love to do a 4 link but i dont have the money for that so im stuck with leafs. Do i have to use a 77-79 ford dana 60 or can i use a newer one? Ive heard that the axle lengths differ. Do i have to get new leafs or could i use the stock ones off of the ford? Sorry for all the questions but I rely on this truck all the time. So i have to get all of my facts straight before I tear into it although im ready to do it now.

Will the Dana 60 off a Dodge 92 Cummins work okay?

77'-79' dana 60 is the stoutest (king pins), 32.5" spring pad width, if i remember right. Newer ford 60's have 36" pad width (12.50 tires can rub the spring at full steering lock without the proper back spacing on the wheel). Newer dodge axles have a left hand pumpkin & Abs sensors, but have wheel bearing issues & ball joints, also no leaf mounts. I don't remember the year that dodge went to a left pumpkin, the older dodge axle mentioned above should be a right hander (which would need a different t-case).

You could use stock superduty springs but your spring hanger brackets would have to make the lift. The problem with SAS is it requires the truck to be lifted to clear the pumpkin on the axle & the oil pan.

offroad direct has great sas stuff as well as offroad unlimited, both had there leaf spring kits on sale last time I checked.

Hope that helps a little.

THIS (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332392) thread has what you need.

If you are looking for a used axle go with a 77-79 Ford Dana 60 because they have a high pinion differential.

Just got my hands on a 79 ford Dana 60. After questioning every single person that owns an old ford i found out that the guy i needed to see lives 3 min. up the road from me. He had three ol' d60's laying behind his barn and was kind enough to give me one for 400$ So now my project is officially started.
