Maybe I'm making this too simple...doesn't GM's MDT use the same DMax engine and ZF 6 speed? Surely they cannot be using the same DMF...so why can't we use the MDT setup in our 2500HD's???

I believe this was discussed and the MDT's have a different trans case and single mass flywheel. The housing is larger and would interfere with a P/U cab floor if you had the correct trans housing.

Too bad these weren't two pc bell housing and trans not integral.

LB7 or LLY in LRM or LRZ (300 HP or 210 HP) Engines are same but different....output shaft is 3mm larger to the clutch, Single mass 13" Flywheel, heavier clutch, and larger shart into the ZF trans. Part numbers different accross the board. Checked with the MDT Dealer to confirm, as they put it....the car dealers are constantly re-ordering parts for the 4500's, since they order pick-up truck parts and they don't fit.

GM's "conservative" numbers on these trucks are to prevent larger MDT sales from dropping (i.e. 6500 Lo Pro and 6500's with 26K GVW). I've not had a bit of problems with the clutch or ZF with GC's above 30K, but would not want enter in a race with it...
