ok fellas, well its pushing four months and $2500 and i still havent got my truck in my sig running. im about ready to either shoot it or more likely as a last effort take it to the local diesel shop and just say "fix the *****er!" it still takes a long cranking before it will actually start. it smells rich while its running and has a chug-chug-chug to the idle like maybe a cylinder is missing. it keeps going into limp mode and shutting off at random times. ive replaced the ecm, crank sensor, ip (5068 style) with new pmd, and just got done replacing the heads as the old ones were cracked. ive tried driving it as much as i can to bleed out any air in the fuel lines and still hasnt cleared up. i had a shop set the timing on the pump for me before i pulled the heads off and never touched the ip when i done the head replacement. any ideas before i have to bend over and take it to a diesel shop? if i didnt have so much in the truck right now i probably would just watch roll off a cliff and toast a few marshmellows in the glowing light of burning diesel and rotella 15w40. thanks guys

who did you get your ip from?

optical harness? im guessing you mean the inline filter harness to the optical sensor, if thats what you mean then no. ive looked into that before and split back the conduit and there is no type of filter that i can see. i know it is still throwing code 18 at least. the one guy who works at the dealership im at doesnt keep his generic scanner here anymore so the only way i can look at codes is jumping the terminals. the pump came from advanced auto. the first pump i got off them ran worse than the OE one so they give me a second one. i talked to the local diesel shop and they said it sounds like like a IP problem. i took a good look at the fuel lines and cant see any cracked as i thought maybe it was sucking in air.

Code is read using paper clip, one of the greatest engineering invention.
The how to is in the FAQ for Obd-I vehicle.
That filter harness have electrical interference filter called ferrite core, not straining filter. I am not sure if you can just install a ferrite core on the cables but IIRC Heath Diesel sells them.

best way to check for air is to replace the IP return hose with clear tubing, there should be no air bubbles passing trough that line at all.
Air only gets in pre LP.
Frotty fuel could cause the code 18.

Bison has some good advice as it sounds like your are continually trying to bleed air??? A vacuum from the tank sock looks an awful lot like air when it is a lack thereof (if you know what I mean). That would also give you frothy fuel. I chased a clogged tank sock forever.
