: Interesting TPMS problem on LMM
Doubleoh9 11-15-2009, 09:05 PM So my TPMS started to have a problem about a 6 months ago. After rotating my tires, I put the truck in "Relearn tire positions" on the DIC and tried to get them reset like many times before. Well, it wouldn't work. After trying time and time again, I made an appointment at the dealer.
The dealer looks at it and says nothing was wrong, just that the tire pressures must be really close to the required pressure and charged me 65 bucks for a service visit. I asked if they tried using the computer or if they used their fancy hand wand. They used the wand. I explained that my problem was with resetting it throught the DIC. They said because my tire pressures we not exactly at the correct pressure, GM would not let them submit a warranty claim. I called BS and they told me too bad.
So I visit a second dealer and they say they will look into it. Well, they call me and say nothing is wrong, my truck isn't supposed to be able to be reset with anything but the hand wand. I tell the service manager that it used to work with the DIC so something is obviously wrong. He insists that I am wrong and to come get my truck, there is nothing wrong.
So here I am with my warranty about to expire and 2 dealers refuse to fix my truck. As a matter of fact, they were quite rude about the fact that I don't know what I am talking about and nothing is wrong.
Anyone know of any tech service bulletins relating to TPMS not responding to the air pressure adjustment relearn method? I'd like some ammo when I go to my 3rd dealer.
Thanks.
05crmi 11-16-2009, 10:55 PM I tried relearning mine and it wouldnt work either. Had to take mine in and they "hand wanded" it, now it works fine. Do you have to reflash it everytime you rotate your tires? I'm thinkin so
Doubleoh9 11-16-2009, 11:24 PM Well, the first few times I was able to use the computer on the truck and it worked fine. I have 2 friends with the same truck and theirs works fine to this day. It would really suck to have to go the the dealer every time I rotate my tires.
I manages to call another dealer today that said something was definitely wrong, but they are 150 miles away. Hopefully I can find a decent dealer close or I guess it's time for a road trip.
rcr1978 11-17-2009, 12:06 AM Mines never worked, I don't have a remote just the single dic button its a stripped work truck. I've tried everything setting them perfect letting air out, adding air, ect....... I can only get one sometimes 2 tires to chirp. TPMS=pizzo chit. Mine only reset's with the damn TPMS tool.
Yfzdragger 11-17-2009, 01:34 AM Most tire shops can reset your tpms and most do it for free if you use them for tire service. I know when we reset the newer GMs we have to use the wand and the reset button together for the vehicle to relearn tire pressures... I didnt know you could just use the botton by itself...
CajunDiesel 11-17-2009, 09:12 AM Anyone know where you can buy the recalibration tool for the GM schrader TPMS system? If it isn't too expensive it may be a good thing to have around the garage. I would like to set my PSI alarm to 50 so I can run lower pressures when not towing.

heymccall 11-17-2009, 10:46 PM Following the instructions, and airing each tire DOWN with a disconnected air chuck, it takes about 3 seconds per corner. Simply depressing the core with a point doesn't seem to work here.
Never had a problem with any of 'em.

Tried this numerous times, followed the instruction to the nutz still no worky.:(
Duratime 11-18-2009, 07:28 PM Mine has always worked. You have to drop about 10 psi out the tire, it honks the horn, then move to the next tire. When your on the last tire it honks twice, and your done. I think you have to start at the drivers front, then pass front, then pass rear, then driver's rear. I would show them the owners manual and show them what it says. It's in the book, so it should be on the truck, if not, it is defective and needs to be fixed under warranty.
LambofGod 11-20-2009, 10:22 PM I have the same problem guys....I'll take it in tomorrow.
FireStarter 04-23-2010, 08:41 PM Just found this thread by searching. Rotated tires and attempted to reset positions tonight, what a pain. I didn't realize this was an issue until the reset failed to work 6 or 7 times. Grrrrr. Now I can't find my pressure gauge, and I have no idea where my tire pressures stand from a safety point of view for the trip into the shop tomorrow. I'd be curious to know where I could get on of those wands too.
bsmall2800 04-23-2010, 09:02 PM when I had my tires rotated at the dealer about a month ago I inquired about the TPMS. He said it had to be reset by something that the dealer had. He also said most mafor tire shops have this same tool to reset the TPMS at each valve stem after the tires get rotated.
I thought that was kind of stupid but thats the way it is now a days I guess.
chvle66 04-24-2010, 07:19 PM Tire Rack has the tool and it works great.
Doubleoh9 04-24-2010, 10:53 PM It took me going to 4 dealers to finally get this resolved. Most said there was no problem and that the tool was needed to reset these. Finally, one dealer did a little work and found that there was a tech bulletin stating that there were new pressure sensors available to solve the problem. They put new sensors in and it has worked perfectly since.
As a side note, I bought a tool from Tire Rack that resets them without using the air pressure. It was only $100.
