Well that's one way you could do it...

Its on the back side of the aluminum plate. I dont think anything will hit the pmd or the cooler. It was very clean and no signs of anything ever hitting the bumper or anything in the area. I think it'll be fine. I'll carry a spare just in case it doesnt work out but i think it'll be fine.

I may make some brackets and put a bigger piece of aluminum on the milling machine and work and make my own heat sink and then mount it to the bolts holding the tow hook to the frame. Its hard to explain what i am thinking of doing but the idea i have is to mount it right behind and just below the valance under the bumper. That would put it in direct airflow with no possibility of rain or oil leaking down on it, and it'd be protected some more.

Right now its just on a very large piece of 1/2" aluminum plate attached just below the license plate. There are washers and nuts on the front and back holding it on. It isn't relying on the plastic licence plate nuts to support it. I looked at many possibilities on mounting the pmd and I couldn't find an area that I was satisfied with other than where it is now, or under the tow hook on some specially made brackets and cooler. All the other places involved mounting it somewhere where it would restrict airflow to something else, be it the AC condenser, or the trans/oil coolers. The AC in this truck is marginal as is, so i dont want anything that would restrict airflow to the condenser. If you look on your trucks you will notice the only good airflow the AC condenser gets is on the upper left corner. The rest of it is blocked by the trans and oil coolers (which you wouldn't want to restrict with a heat sink either). So. After careful consideration, i chose the current location.

Ah! I see.

If that dosen't keep your PMD cool, I don't think any thing will.:grd: So what is the heat sink made of?

Sorry should read the entire post before replying

Its actually just a 6" x 12" x 1/2" piece of flat aluminum plate right now. I'm going to get a thicker piece of aluminum and use the milling machine at work to put the heat sink fins in it.

I thought that was a license plate extension

I think you should make something that you could bolt your license plate to on one side and the PMD on the other. Would be a much cleaner install

ummmm or put in behind the bumper. . that way it can never get touched by anything on the road. some ass thats madd at you can cut the wires etc put it behind the bumper it will stay just as cold but not as wet as the way you have it....

That's what I did. Clean install and protected from the guy who's gonna back into me in the parking lot.

I just relocated my FSD cooler off the intake manifold maybe a week ago.

Clean install mine went directly into the hole in the bumper that looks like a fog light would fit in. I guess them holes are really for cooling. Drilled 2 small holes in the back upper lip of the bumper, couple of small stainless screws with nylon thread locking nuts and a couple washers. Very hard to see it, unless you know it's there...it's kinda protected in the upper portion of the hole and should get plenty of wind cooling.

I'll try to post a pic if it's light enough out tonight when I get home from work.

My PMD cooler is working VERY well. There aren't any fins on it but you still cant feel any heat at all. It is staying that cool!!
