Have a '95 3/4 ton with the 5.7L. She's starting to get a little tired and have been thinking of putting in the 5.3 or even better, the 6.0 from something newer. Anyone here done that? What's required? Any thoughts? I figure I'd need the complete motor with electronics and I need this to be a smog legal system when done. That should be the easy part I'm hoping since it's an upgraded emissions system. Running an Auto trans if that matters.

My advise is to check out www.ls1tech.com (http://www.ls1tech.com) Those guys are changing 1/2 tons to 6.0's, putting on superchargers, turbos, bottle, you name it!!! They would know what it takes for the swap.
How about a dmax out of a wreck into that 95:ro)

We talked about that but it's a daily driver and the mods would cost a little more $$$ and time than my son has.

For sure go with a 6.0 for a 3/4 ton, the 5.3 will dissapoint you for pulling after having a 5.7... I got tired of my 5.3 and went to a duramax. The 6.0 is a decent pulling motor.
A lot of times on ebay you can find an entire motor with computer and all pulled from a truck. I would find one like that so you are sure to have everything. Probably be easier to run the newer 4l80e out of the donor truck than an older one, but you could make it work either way.

If it were my truck I might go to a crate engine dealer, i.e. Jim Pace or Scoggin-Dickey and get one of the HT383 crate engines. These engines have good horse power/torque, would work with your TBI and be a whole bunch cheaper than a LS1/2 conversion. Look here:

I'm with Heartbeat on this one... go with a crate 350 and be done with it. You'll be way ahead in both time and $$$$'s.
