Guys I have owned a dually for 8-9 years now. (a '93 now my '02) when you go to a tire shop, either R&R the simulators yourself or watch them carefully. There are SO MANY variations on how the simulators mount, that the idiots at the tire shop can't get a grasp on how to R&R them without damage. You would think it is rocket science to get these thing on and off, but the "tire tech" just can't comprehend how to do it. On my first dually guys would spend more time on the simulator than the tire itself.-:t Now today I get back from the goodyear dealer, to find that the hand holes aren't lined up to check the tire pressure. And someone had actually beat on the simulator to get it on.-:t -:t -:t Wouldn't you think they could get a handle on it since they took it off? DON'T COUNT ON IT! Apperantly they have short term memory. You would have thought I'da learned from my first dually but I guess I gave them the benifit of the doubt. Please save yourself some money and headache and do the R&R yourself and leave the dirty work to the tire guy. We don't want to overload them with to much thinkin';)

Good advice.
I used to watch and help the tire guy when I had my last truck.

rolloffhill, I feel your pain dude! :o: I have the simulators that slide over the lug nuts and held on by the rubber caps. I remove the simulators before going to the tire shop to haviethe tires rotated and balanced so the guys won't use impact wrenches on them and strip the plastic nuts. :(
I also watch them to make sure they put the rims on so I can get to my valve stems. They haven't got it right yet! JJ :)

I rotate my own tires, but if I didn't, I'd be removing the simulators/stock cover before I brought the truck in for service. I'd need to remove them to retourque the lug nuts and re-check after a few miles anyways.

Rolloffhill - you remind me of the comedian Ron White talking about Sears and their 'educated tire person'. If you have a chance to watch that skit, it'll make you feel better.

Thankfully the guys @ http://www.performancewheel.com/index.cfm in Sheidan Colorado, have their heads and butts wired correctly. I do not have to worry about my stuff at all.

As the son and brother of three mechanics, I really annoy shops when I have anything worked on. I watch them like a hawk.
