First, Thanks to all who post on here. You have saved me time and money.

I have a LB7. Can you give any tips, tricks that would prevent, or prolong the MTBF (time between failures) on the injectors. 92 k on mine and I want another 110k before I have to replace them.

I have read about 2 stroke oil. What about a lift pump with another filter?

I love my black beauty (nick named the maxipad) I want to keep it forever!

thats a tough one to answer.

there are a few threads going around that are discussing possible causes of the injector failures.

read this one

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279174

there is another one floating around where they were discussing the possibility of too much voltage getting to the fcim but i cant find that one.

what do i do to help with the injectors?
synthetic oil
howes in every tank
only fill up at major truck stops (fresh fuel)
2 stroke from time to time
secondary fuel filter
"giver her the onion" from time to time

Wish there was a "magic pill".

GM would rather extend the warranty period and really scurtinize the symptoms (and deny the claim) and hope that as the LB7 gets older, the 7 year limit will have expired and they can say they did what they could.

I have 128K miles on my '03 with original injectors. Tick...tick...tick...

I think some of them are luck of the draw.
I have 104,xxx on the factory injectors in my truck.
I bought it with 89k. The PO didn't do anything special, no additive or anything.
Me personally, I use Opti-Lube XPD. I do this for several reasons. First with ULSD or LSD it helps lubricate the system, injector pump, injectors. But it also cleans the fuel and helps the filter catch water.
The second reason is for the injector cleaner.
I will also add this, my truck runs quieter, smoother, and seems to have a bit more power and build boost a bit better.
I have used this since the first fillup that I have had the truck.
Also keep your filter changed.

For what its worth this is what a Duramax owning mechanic siad after I got the free injectors. Clean fuel is big, he recomended getting it from Truck stops. He had run some tests to check local stations and found crud in alot of them. Second was to run Power service to help keep things good. Last he recomended changing the fuel filter every 10,000 miles, he knew I changed my own so I don't think this was a plug to get me in there. I asked about the two stroke oil and he said it couldn't hurt.

Sometimes I think it is luck of the draw, but to play it safe I have added the Nicktane around 4 years ago, use an additive every fillup without fail. Today I change out the Cat filter after 10K miles and while the media was 50/50 gold and black what bothered me was a slug of rust about the size of a quarter at the bottom of the filter. Its good it was in the filter, but it means there is water in the fuel I buy, and I 95% buy from the same station.

odd_planes is the person that came up with the capacitor(power filter) in 12vdc power to FICM. he spent time talking to bosch/gm-dmax and got to be tester for "super-duper" injectors, no failure in year, gm pulled injectors and put remans in, odd_planes posted about powerfilter idea and seems to have dropped offline. some have run nictane and had repeat failures, it can't hurt to clean the fuel and the larger filter element allows water to fall out of suspension easier. lift pump helps push fuel thru filters and will recirculate fuel thru filters and make for alot cleaner fuel. the pressure will help cp3 push solid fuel head to injectors(air allows for fuel pulsing harmonics that may cause errosion in fuel rails). i wonder how close the failures are in relation to batch or mfgr runs. were ball-seat errosion nozzles made from a wrong/bad batch of source metal, were injector bodies from the same thing(maybe even the shift that cast them). have read several members that actually had heads replaced and that ended posts about bad injectors. with bar-coding of every part some one at bosch and gm should have seen a patern with this. i think mfgr's run tooling alot longer, to save money, or get new point person that finds cheaper "comparable" material, gets it used to produce product only to find out that there was a reason to not to use it. when i was in service, we had junior officer Wash DC that was project officer, he wanted to use cheaper item, called 10 sellers, last one said might work(others said NO) so took yes to boss, he approved, this info is known because it Damn-Near Killed someone and the inquirey found the phone conversations in phone records, so someone's gotta know where the cluster is on these injector failures. injectors will go bad from sitting also, we used to dissassemble new nozzles and clean prior to rebuilding injectors.

Awsome name for the truck!!! two stroke oil and Nictane aux filter is a

good start from the research I have done. Other then that do the best

you can to get clean fuel with no water in it (truck stop fuel).

Good Luck!

I would also agree iwth getting fuel from a well known and well used station. Cleaner fresher fuel. Other then if you catch them while the tanks are being filled or right after the truck leaves.
Don't know if I said this before or not, but keep your filter changed. I would also agree a additional fuel filter would help too.

i have found that the 2 stroke oil works pretty good for me. 43K on my injectors and 30k with the tuner on lvl 7 or higher. I ran my truck without 2 stroke oil for a few tanks and my balance rates went up to 2.0-3.0 +/- but add in a quart of 2 stroke oil every fill up and they drop to 1.0-2.0 +/-. cant say it will work for everyone but it works for me. just waitin till i gotta do my injectors myself. just hope ill have a second vehicle to drive by then to the truck can sit for a bit while i take my time
