my son is looking to buy a '96 3500 crew cab dually, it has set for about a year, the owners had trouble with it stalling now and then and just quit driving it. we have put in new batterys, check voltage to the glow plugs, i have fuel to the ip. I cracked a line at a injector and cranked, no fuel there. we put a little fuel in the intake and it ran for a few seconds till that was gone.

i have been reading and think maybe the PMD could be bad. anything else I might check?

This would be his first truck and is excited to see it run, wish i had found it first.
thanks, jeff

 If you want to see the exploded view of the engine try that again with just a little more fuel! We call this sort of thing a run away engine. Unlike gas engines diesels have no throttle to control speed when fuel is put in aside of injectors. So if they get fuel or enough engine oil they will run away and come apart from over speed. Hopefully you didn't damage it - see the ether warning...

Sounds like you are on the right track with the PMD. Do you get a service engine soon light on key on? Fuses good? Critters like to eat wires on sitting vehicles. So it could have had a failing PMD and now missing wire sections.
