2002 LB7 with 160K. Truck has been running great. Went for a highway run on cool evening and hammered on it. Pulled like crazy to speed limiter. A few days later, trany stopped shifting which I have experienced before due to clogged fuel filter. 11,000 miles on this one. I cut it open and sure enough filled with dirt/crap. I do run PS Supplement fairly regularly.

The new fuel filter cured the shifting issues but the truck feels down on power. Feels to me that boost/torque is just not where it should be. Almost like a bleed off value does not stay closed when boost goes up. Air cleaner guage still in green about 50%

Also noticed that after idleing at stop lights, puff of blue smoke comes out of exhaust for a few seconds like the old Plymouth Voyagers 3.0L with bad value seats.

No CEL. Thanks in advance for any diagnostic help.

PS...starts and idles fine.

What you describe is what happened to me after installing the PEN injectors. BOSCH injectors took care of the problem.

I just checked the oil and I may have injector issues. Sick and can't smell but it appears to be overfull by a qt or 2

Hey Guys-

I am a rookie to this forum (and to diesel ownership) so please bear with me as alot of the technical talk goes straight over my head.

I am having the same problem with blue smoke upon cold start and for the first few seconds after stopping at lights and intersections. I don't have any power loss or performance issues so I guess my stupid question is whether I am causing a future catastrophe by not replacing my injectors. It's not that I don't want to...I just don't have the money right now.

Any other tips would really help me out.

Thanks!

Guess the paranoids were after me. I rechecked the oil level and it appears to be fine. No extra so I think injectors are ok. I put 15 gallons of fresh fuel and more PS Supplement. It seams to be running a lot stronger. Still occasional blue smoke but seems to be returning to normal as the bad fuel burns off i suspect.

for the time it takes to remove the 4 screws holding the air filter in , I think it is better to visually inspect the air filter than just going by the little filter guage. when that guage is in the green , there still can be a significant amount of resriction in the air filter without the little guage identifiying a restriction. When the guage gets to yellow, it is my opinion that the filter is way over due for replacement and if it ever gets into the red, damage is going to occur. That engine will try to suck air from places it has never sucked air from before. gaskets , o-rings, anyplace it can.
just my thoughts again---charlie

I pulled Air Filter and it wasn't bad but with 50K on it, I replaced it anyway. The smoking at idle is getting worse. I was hoping running a few tanks with additive would clear up the fuel system after fuel filter clogged BUT now I'm thinking you're right.

Truck went into service 5/2002 so no longer covered under warranty. Figures! I will have stealership confirm diagnosis and evaluate options at that point.

Thanks for the help

Took truck in today. Good call. 2 injectors going out. A few months out of warranty but local dealership is taking care of me and honoring it. I only have to pay $500 deductable.
