The AAM 1150 is leaking where the right tube presses into the casting.
It has been to the dealer once for a fix -- they cleaned and tried an
external sealer. It leaks again.
The truck is a 2004.5 2500HD and has 7582 miles on it. No accidents, no towing over 3000 lbs, occasional use with a camper.
Having experienced such leaks in the past (the 12 bolt in my '64 Malibu leaks, but it is 40 years old), I feel there is no solution short of a new rear. The dealer will balk at that. It might be possible to bead blast around the tube, clean with brake cleaner, then use a TIG welder to solder, braze or weld (high nickle rod) to close the joint. Would that work, or do I need a new rear?
Can I put a 1-ton case in there and re-use my axles, brakes, etc.? I ask because I REALLY want the dually anti-roll bar, and that requires a new AAM1150 assembly.
How should I proceed?
