Replaced fuel shutoff solenoid on our 97 Dodge Ram (diesel) because it was shutting itself off or wouldn't start but it still is doing the same thing. Not getting fuel to solenoid or filter, may run for awhile or might not even start. If you hold the lever on the bottom of the solenoid open (it won't always open on it's own) the truck will run fine. Is this a defective solenoid or is there something else causing the truck to shut itself off?

It's most likly the pull up relay located on the fire wall. There are two relays side by side next to the brake booster. Its common to have them work inttermittenly or to just fail all together. I would recommend repacing both relays.

If the truck is running fine this is a Dodge thread, not an emergency...Thread moved for this reason...

My dodge done the same thing. it was the quick disconnect at the end of the fuel line connecting to the lift pump sucking air. I cut the connector off and replaced it with brass compression fitting. It fixed it.
