: DTT Stage 2 Installed
duramaxdiesel 06-01-2005, 11:10 AM Hey all I've been crazy busy with work lately that I haven't had a lot of time to log on. I just wanted to say that I have my DTT Stage 2 installed and am loving life:ro)
Tom installed the Stage 2 last Friday night and I was at the track the very next day. The build up and install went like clock work. Everything works beautifully and I got a max line pressure on 310 PSI. The stock converter is now history and I'm running a DTT single disk prototype. The stall on this thing is just under 1700 and I can literally walk through the brakes with my foot to the floor on the pedal. Hey Juice, how's that stock converter holding up:D ):h :D ):h  What really amazed me was when I went to back up a really steep hill and I didn't have to apply any throttle. The truck idled its way all the way up:ro)
Shifting is way nice in either T/H or not. The shifts are very clean and positive but not hit you like a tank hard. I've got a little over 1200Kms of drag racing and very aggressive driving on this tranny now and am very confident with it. For all those that are looking at upgrading your transmission don't count DTT out. They may be the last one to join in the Allison game but I think that as more of these units gets out they will quickly rise to the top as they did with the Dodge(yuck-:t ) crowd.
I know some of you might not believe that this tranny has no flaws as of yet because of the last DTT Stage 2 thread but I'm really not hiding anything. Like anyone else who's happy with a product I like to share my experience. I'll keep you guys updated. Nick
Got Juice? 06-01-2005, 11:43 AM Hey Juice, how's that stock converter holding up:D ):h :D ):h

sp33d 06-01-2005, 01:12 PM Very glad to hear things went better for you Nick! Keep us updated.
Do you plan to attend the event in Indianapolis end of the month by any chance? I'm hoping someone with a properly working Stage 2 will be there and allow me a ride for comparison sake.

Dmax Tim 06-01-2005, 01:25 PM yeah i need a tranny bad HELP
Looks like if u go DTT u need to make a LOONNGGG drive west to get them to do it.
If not u better look for SC or ATS close to home.

Tom installed the kit that DTT sent them. It seems that it can be installed in kit format.
ecc_33 06-01-2005, 01:35 PM theres a guy in west virgina that sells and installs a ton of dtt dodge trannys

I know they have a pretty extensive dealer base.
Might be worth a call to DTT and ask them about holding capacity. Since they fixed the downshift issue on mine, the transmission has been letter perfect. What I am waiting for is their convertor to complete the package.
duramaxdiesel 06-01-2005, 01:46 PM Yup Tom installed the kit that Bill sent him. Everything went fine. I did 15 1 to 5 cycles in regular mode and 15 in Tow/Haul. Everything cleared up after about the ninth cycle in each.
As for parts it's all chinese to me. I don't know how you tranny guys do it. When I walked into Tom's Clean room I freaked at all the parts. The only thing that I reconized was the converter. And let me tell you, it's one heck of a converter.
ecc_33 06-01-2005, 01:57 PM i just got off the phone with a guy from dtt and he told me a complete stage 2 kit with clutches and rebuild was around 3500 dollars
heck for that much a could have a ats stage 3
does that sound right for the dtt
both not installed but i can take care of that
Dmax Tim 06-01-2005, 02:01 PM i would love to get a ats level 3 but money is an issue right know

All 3 are close to the same money.
Or get an ATS or SC kit and do it yourself :ro)
duramaxdiesel 06-01-2005, 02:02 PM Wow Indianapolis! I'll have to check out a map and see just how far away that is from me. I'd really like to attend a few shows down south this year.
hdmax 06-01-2005, 02:23 PM Good to see you like it! Like I've said before, DTT will be a huge player with the Allison Automatic transmission, just as they have been with the Dodge.
If I remember correctly, ATS and Suncoast has had a few problems with upgraded transmissions in the last 2 years of so.

You can't compare a 2 to a 3, that means nothing when comparing different companies product.
Check with Mitchell (Spelling?) in Thornville, they are huge in the Cummins world, and I believe they handle DTT transmission upgrades. Maybe you could be the first out of Dodge experiance ;)
Diesel Power 06-01-2005, 02:33 PM Glad to hear its work great. please keep us posted!

way over priced i know other people that could do the same crap but a lot cheaper
sp33d 06-01-2005, 04:32 PM Tom installed the kit that DTT sent them. It seems that it can be installed in kit format.
Tom got more parts with his kit than we received. No one that knows is willing to talk to me about the install of this kit on Nick's truck so I am unable to figure out what was done different than my install. I do know different/more parts were supplied.
duramaxdiesel 06-01-2005, 04:51 PM Chad I can honestly tell you that my truck works perfectly. I really hope to make it to an event where a few of you guys can try my DTT Stage 2 and see for yourself.
Got Juice? 06-01-2005, 05:11 PM Tom got more parts with his kit than we received. No one that knows is willing to talk to me about the install of this kit on Nick's truck so I am unable to figure out what was done different than my install. I do know different/more parts were supplied.
I was talking to Tom yesterday. From all accounts everyone was shipped the same parts from the same production line.
I know the one I have is slightly 'Tamer' pressure wise to what Tom and MikeL got, but that was a consequence of sending out the production kits to their dealer base. The test trucks are the last ones to see the production goodies!
The pistons in my truck did not even have the hard anodizing applied to them.
Currently I am sitting about 20 PSI less than Nick has. Now if he would just quit rubbing my nose in the new T/C Censored
Oh well, Nick, Maybe Tom will swing by for a ride in the TWINMAX!
sp33d 06-01-2005, 08:06 PM Nick, I am sure your truck is running great. I was not doubting that one bit. I'm not doubting a word you or Tom have posted or told me in the past.
Juice, I don't know what parts Tom was sent. I was told he received "Bill's new shift system" so he no longer has to use the Transgo kit. I understood this to mean he received trim valves (among other things possibly) from Bill which I know were something Bill was working on. We never received them.
The lack of the trim valves really isn't what I'm concerned about. I believe Bill's probably ended up very similar to Transgo's. What I really would like to know is what was actually done to Nick's transmission. I'd like to know if any holes were drilled in any of the pistons, or if they were already there. I'd like to know if any valve body modifications were done. I'd like to know what shim size Tom used for the pump, if any and if it was included with the "kit" or not. I've got a lot of questions but no one is willing to answer them. I asked a lot of them in the last thread but they were never answered. I want to know so that I know what was done wrong with my transmission. They've blamed it on the installer so I'd like to know what Tom did to make this work right so that I can determine for myself what happened. I'm not interested in hurting or ruining any reputations. I'm interested in finding out what happened to my transmission and by knowing the differences between Tom's install and Mike's install I can find out. The parties that know though are not willing to talk to me.

I just was giving you an option since you live down the road from them. And you were looking for someone that deals with DTT.
As for being over rated! NO WAY! they are the standard in the Cummins. 98% of the pullers that are for real are from Mitchell. (At least in a 250 mile radius of them!) They probably are over priced, but that`s because they have the market cornered around here.
fredw 06-01-2005, 08:44 PM "I'm not interested in hurting or ruining any reputations. I'm interested in finding out what happened to my transmission and by knowing the differences between Tom's install and Mike's install I can find out. The parties that know though are not willing to talk to me."
over the last month from when i started reading threw all this chad, and discussing with other members, it did seam to me that dtt did try to resove a problem that arose after it was installed, and from what i have read they did try to help you out, and in my eyes it looked like you had your mind made up on different things allready, and then the threads here from yourself and ML and others had negative commets towards dtt
if someone came to me and wanted my product, then had it installed incorrectly, then wanted answers to what failed, then would not send it back or have me pick it up, then bash my product in a fourm, he would not get my devine attention again
once again, i would question my installer to what he did, the tranny is worked for others, just not yourself, face the facts
tranytom 06-01-2005, 09:06 PM Chad
I'm Sorry the last time we talked you miss quoted me on the DTT thread. I never siad the DTT would not work with out the transgo. I siad it worked better with the transgo trim valves. Now I no longer us the transgo & have gone with Bill's new shift system. Which was not available at the time I built Nick's stage 1.
I Think You & Mike made some errors in jugment in regardes to your trans. One Mike let you leave with unit that was not working right & Two you left with it.
Mike must have Bill's private cell number & could have or sould have called him. I know what Bill would say.
So I have to say that right now I have a vary good relationship with DTT & I don't want to see I get damaged in any way.
Apologetically
Tom
I got less parts than Mike. I have my own lathe & mill. So I can machine some parts myself. It's all secret voodoo. That's all I'll say.
Tom
sp33d 06-01-2005, 09:27 PM Fred, you're right. DTT made offers to fix the problem. I've never denied this. I'm not getting into the reasons yet again as to why those offers didn't work out. You don't like Mike for reasons unrelated to my situation so I question your real motives in commenting on this.
I'm not interested in rediscussing what happened after the transmission failed. I'm interested in finding out WHY the transmission failed. I'm searching for something though that I won't receive an answer for so I'm going to drop it. Nick, I'm sorry for hijacking your thread. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you're going to be at any events in the states and you're willing to let me take a ride in your truck.
Got Juice? 06-01-2005, 09:29 PM Can't wait to see some times when you TWIN IT Nick!
Diesel Tech 06-01-2005, 10:15 PM I got less parts than Mike. I have my own lathe & mill. So I can machine some parts myself. It's all secret voodoo. That's all I'll say.
Tom
So Tom you are saying you got less parts then Mike with the Stage II DTT kit? If this is correct it must not be much of a kit, since he only got a machined case, new pistions to fit the machined case and C3 return springs! You have stated you got a new shift system which is already more than what Mike recieved. I do not know what the big deal is with telling people what does and does not come in a kit............ everyone else does! This let's the customer know what they are or are not buying. So far it seems like more smoke and mirrors.
As far as Chad's transmission the errors you speak of were made by all involved but the worst part IMHO is when the supplier(DTT) changes the story every time they get a chance. DTT refused to step up and help a dealer during the install, the dealer let something go that was not correct and the customer pushed to get it done as they were already behind because of the DTT twin tubo kit not fitting properly and not being a complete kit. Then when the trouble went public DTT tried to toss the dealer under the bus instead of helping the dealer and customer. Why tell the customer we've got a complete kit when what they had was a few parts and nothing complete! It seems they did it with the twin turbo kit and the transmission kit both! Chad drove to get the twins installed on a timeline which they(DTT) setup, 2 day install. 5 days later and a bunch of home made parts the turbo was on. Now mine you it looks like crap and has parts held in with tie straps, then to top it off they put a used turbo on! Now drive down to get the transmission done. More problems because of another incomplete kit! Now DTT tries to tell us the kit was for a different truck............... what a bunch of crap. They had knowen for 4 -6 weeks prior to the install what truck it was going in. If they knew it was wrong they should have said so long before, but they didn't! So you tell me who's fault this is...............
Fredw
As I stated above, the facts are the facts! Had you shipped out half done product, not once but twice............then refused to help the installer when trouble arose you desirve to catch all the $hit that comes your way. So if you think DTT is getting the $hit deal here, it's because they desirve it!

McRat 06-02-2005, 04:29 PM I will say this, just because something costs more and is better engineered does not make it faster.
We found that out with intakes on the Vette. After going through 3 different $500 intakes, none of them were any faster than 2 zipties (>$0.50).
The way to make something faster, is to first find out what is slowing it down. Some things cost more than others to "fix".

The big thing is u have to go NW (>2000 miles) or NE (<1000 miles)to get DTT installed.
He's got a SC dealer for a neighbor and ATS dealer is <100 miles away.
duramaxdiesel 06-03-2005, 08:22 AM Ah I see.
