Anyone know how much BIGDIPPER charges OTD for him to install a SCIV? Also, how much can I look to spend if I get the SCV from Suncoast and install myself? (no labor charge!!) Just weighing my options here.

Thanks!!

PM sent. Gonna call George as well. Thanks guys! I know either one is plenty for me but the simplicity of the SCV seems almost worth it!

I've also been trying to figure out what i want to do with my tranny when the time comes....everything is so expensive. Ive also thought about buying a stage V for the simplicity of it, I've even been thinking about buying a stage IV kit and attempting the build myself

Building the Allison is not hard, as long as you take your time. Yes, it's big and heavy to get in and out but once your past that the rest is simple. Look on-line or Ebay and get yourself an ATSG book on the Allison 1000/2000. They cost around $15. Good information on what to do and how to do it. Read through it before you decide and see if it's something you want to do. There is plenty of help here if you get stuck.

some of these guys ive heard that build them all the time, have some "tricks" that cuncoast and others dont do...i dnt know what they are and i dnt think they will tell you haha, but id prolly have somebody do it if ur already looking at that much money for the V...and the first thing id do since your gettin ur tranny built is call ppe and get that standard programmer upgraded to the Hot model :). im jealous. have fun with it!

REALLY? Where'd you hear this?

If you knew the background on all of todays's top Allison builders (excluding ATS as they had there own program) you'd find out that most were all closely associated with the late Joe Webb (Suncoast). Joe was a pioneer in the development of what the Allison HP transmisison is today accross the board; and wasn't afraid to share "tricks" with top builders in his circle of friendship. I doubt if there's any "tricks" that Suncoast doesn't already know. George BIG DIPPER and Mike L are two who were close to Joe and as we all know are top knotch!!!

George has a reputation for a reason. Im actually 80% going to baltimore this weekend for him to put 40% injectors in. He is a stand up guy who knows alot about the diesel industry and especially trannys. whatever you decide, hope it works out.

While I surely won't argue that fact of Joe Webb being a pioneer, I'd like to think I didn't walk to the table empty handed. Considering I was one of the first of very few to mod the Allison, I wouldn't be afraid to say I came to the table pretty prepared.....but willing to learn. As a matter of fact, Joe contacted me for info through John Kennedy when he found out I had an Allison holding without any name brand parts.

In 2002, ATS had made 3 triple lock converters for an Allison. One for them, John Kennedy, and myself.....as far as I know. After getting the converter in along with my own mods I had completed, I was able to make a sub 13 pass.....weren't too many of us in the 12s at the time.....3-4 maybe. I know I sent my "stack" to Joe to try on the company truck and seemed we had the start of a pretty good friendship. I was still venturing on my own as I wasn't getting help from anyone I was helping, but got shut down the week I was supposed to get some clutches from a guy at Alto.....Suncoast had a lock on it. The guy at Alto forwarded my info to Joe, who I already had dealings with and we both got a bit of a kick in the pants from that one. This was the start of the kits and where I remember having a bit of a disagreement with Joe about shimming the pressure regulator. Joe used the term...You don't need it...alot with me, but I would usually get a call from him on a Saturday morning...."We'll, how'd you make out?"...or it was a, "Well, you got me thinking...". I liked Joe and sure would have enjoyed meeting him in person. I wasn't building transmissions for the public while Joe was alive, only a few local trucks. After talking with Ron and Mike L, I started doing a lot more. I tested one of the first Precision Converters Mike had gotten me, I paid, and thought my input there helped in the production of the ML, but it seems different now. I know not telling everyone everything I did or being brutallu honest about my findings never sat well with them initially, they seemed to appreciate it or become more open minded after they looked at things the way I did.

As far as tricks....How would you or anyone else know what I do? I can assure everyone that reads this that I don't blanket build. I prefer to make changes based on the intended use. While I can assure you that I have no idea what Mike, Suncoast, or anyone else puts in their trans....they also have no idea what I do/don't do. I have never looked inside a Suncoast, but have seen all the rest. Sure we all talk and share findings to a degree.....I'm sure everyone holds something close to them. I saw Brayden and Ron discussing VB changes during the open house 2 years ago that Mike nor myself were invited to partcipate. That doesn't bother me, but it does show that we don't share everything...clearly. I also offered input to everyone mentioned in this thread about the harsh converter lock-up and why my transmissions didn't have it....but until I got to Suncoast, the only person who would even listen was Mike.....although he was trying another approach. Once the open minds walked to the bench, the problem was solved as Ron/Suncoast got in nipped in the bud. I've also helped in testing of many Suncoast and Precision converters after people realized my motive for input. Since we are starting to see different kinds of hard parts failures that haven't been a prior problem, it would be nice if we could all be open about our findings as it would leave for a great deal of time left to innovation instead of playing catch up. I personally had one kick my ass to about 3 weeks waiting on parts and trouble shooting that no one was able to offer any input on....and I feel this will be the first of many.

Somewhere in the middle of all this....I managed to befriend Steve Cole.....piss off Mike L.....only to have that all turned around with a phone call. Now it's the other way around....lol. I don't come on here and beat my chest of what I have done or what I have contributed. I build a good trans for a fair price and wouldn't do anything to someone else's set up that I wouldn't or haven't done to my own. I have helped in developing plenty of parts/converters/etc for the Allison that I am not publically noted for and that really doesn't bother me. I tell it like it is, like it or not. I don't post alot on here anymore because the politics are too thick and I have zero patience for that BS. I don't post on some of the other boards because they are worse that this board ever was as far as politics. I have helped with some of the fastest trucks in the industry, not always being trans related....another plus.

In short, don't count me out of any running simply because I don't have a 3500sq/ft shop or sell parts on the internet. I would be more than happy to help anyone that asked for it wether itbe helping get parts, kits, or even a trans shipped. I enjoy doing this for the most part....even though there are some very impatient people. My family comes first when it comes to allocating time and I admit that I drop the ball from time to time. I am a one man show......so I can't devote 8-10hrs on the phone/internet like some of the others.....if I'm on the phone, I'm not making any money. I can add that a good 85% of the people I have helped/worked for, still stay in contact one way or the other....so making friends throughout all of this is a bonus....

There is a lot I left out, but that's it in a nut shell......
