Been noticing lately heavy diesel fumes from my truck...had dealer replace my fuel pump as truck was surging and had crazy idle...

prior to the fix i had asked dealer if the surge was being caused by faulty injectors and they said no, injectors were fine...after repair was done i asked how the injectors were on the truck and mechanic said they were fine...

so assuming injectors are ok, what else could be the cause to these heavy fumes...i can't ride with the windows down because when im stopped at a light all the fumes come inside the truck and when im hooking up the trailer can't leave truck on anymore.

this was obviously never a problem before

Have you inspected the fuel lines, fuel cooler, injectors, and filter housing for leaks?

Every diesel im around puts out heavy fumes depending on the wind. Sometimes i'll even smell it in the shop if i have it on high idle outside and the wind catches it right and blows it near the furnace inlets..

Did they replace your regulator at the same time (I hope so while they were in there!!!)? You may want to try some injector cleaner a try to see if that will help a little bit as well. If I can help you out with that, LET ME KNOW!!!

When my truck was surging , it was the fuel pressure regulator[FPR] which is attached to the fuel pump[cp3], they also thought my injectors were fine because they could not get a proper reading of fuel pressure while the FPR was having problems holding pressure. Once they installed the FPR, they called me and said that my injectors were so bad it filled the work bays up with smoke and raw diesel smell. They replaced the injectors under warranty but I had to pay for the FPR. hope this helps but it looks lioke you need injectors now. ---Charlie

going to give it a few days see how it turns out before calling dealer again...i was just wondering if anyone had the same problem

i know diesel release fumes but not nearly as powerful as what im releasing...its typically tolerable and mine isn't

that is how my truck was before they installed the new FPR and then it was twice as bad after they installed the new FPR and they then did all 8 injectors under warranty at 197,000 miles . truck just turned 245,000 today---Charlie
