: Lights turn on when it is cold
phalfhide 11-09-2009, 06:59 AM it is strange but when it gets cold about 30's my interior lights in my Suburban turn on and when I drive it with the heater on and it worms up inside the lights turn off (I do hair a relay click under the dash by the light switch when it worms up) Has this happen to anyone here?
SuperTuscan 11-09-2009, 09:36 AM My 99 does that every once in a while. At first, I kept blaming my 10 year old daughter not to leave the interior lights on in the truck. You can imagine the conversations from that one - "you expect me to believe the lights turned themselves on"? Uh, yes.
Paveltolz 11-09-2009, 09:42 AM Happened to me last winter. Cold causes the interiour plastics to contract and allow enough room for the door switch to activate the lights. It wasn't a problem in NC but here in upper UT its just cold enough. I can imagine the joy those in the "cooler" climates of Canada, Alaska, and Central Plain states of ND, SD etc are experiencing.
Bison 11-09-2009, 11:56 AM you got a worn door light switch, replace it, It will solve the problem.
being in a cold climate has notting to do with it
GSXR600 11-09-2009, 01:09 PM yah i live in mn and never had a problem like that, though i use the dome overide to keep them off cause for some reason every once and awhile they dont shut off when you lock the truck, but would that be a door light switch also or is mine a diferent issue?.

Thanks, New door switches on the next parts order. I thought it was the cold since it only happens in the winter time when the temperature got below 20 degrees F.

gluing a dime or to to the door button might make it work again.( for a while)
i believe 89 to 98 have the same switches.
They are a PITA to replace though.

Good Idea, I'll try it in the meantime. Thanks.

Driver's side isn't hard to replace, just did mine on Saturday. I just took the dash bezel off and reached underneath the vent on the left and pulled the wires out (it was already broke off inside). Haven't attemped the passenger side though...
Are they the same for both sides? I would imagine they are.
ak diesel drive 11-10-2009, 08:56 PM dealer actually sells a shim kit just for this problem. Plastic washers to go under the button on the door panel. They are color matched to your interior.
