WOW!! Madspeed, that blazer is friggin awesome! That is exactly what i have been wanting to do for such a long time. The gauge cluster you built is one of the coolest customizations i have seen. I have recently located a 72 GMC 4x4 shortbed that i think i might buy to put a duramax/allison combo into it. If you dont mind, i may be asking you a lot of questions in the near future!! The truck is a 1/2 ton, but i plan on putting in 3/4 or 1-ton suspension and axles onto it. I built a 67 chev a few years ago while i was still in high school but just sold it a couple of months ago... You said that you can reproduce the gauge panel? If that is true and i do end up buying the GMC, then i would definetly purchase one from you. Also, if you dont mind answering, about how much money do you have in the swap so far??

Thanks for your time,

awesome! I was waiting for someone to do this. can't wait to see more progress.

I am guessing your doing all the work yourself...that's even more challenging and amazing.

I bough the 01 GMC 2 years ago as a rolled truck for 6k.

Heres a teaser of the twin turbos i had to SEVERLY modify, I traded my gt4708 and 4088r for this used LB7 kit with a 45

And hey I know the -10 an fittings on the trans arent right they were left overs and ATM thats what I had to hook up the lly trans to the LB7 the hose is lef over hydraulic line too not heater hose from the H1 dmax I did

Hmm how much Id have to say 6k in the wrecked truck a SC V 6 speed twin turbos, My old rims and 37" toyos , all my time an lab to design and connect a 205 transfer case to an allison. Hmm Id say at the moment 10k + and growin as the D60 is on the way too for the front axle

Yes its all done by me for me and with me =) with no mill or lathe but i do have a fewe fab tools Incl a 275 amp tig and 23 years exp as an auto tech and home junkyard dawg builder (allways been Poor as hell)

did you make those arm rests for the doors or buy them somewhere?
Yes those I made with borrowed basic wood working tools they have power windows and locks in those doors hooked to factory 01 GMC electronics so the key fob works too:D

great dash !

Umm I have no electrical training so i learn everything as i go< fortunatly i am VERY gifted with electronics and very resoursful. I had to remove all the components from the factory circuit board and trace out all the circuits put together a net list and build my own printed circuit usinf FreePCB software, this guage cluster isnt finished yet Im still putting the circuit board together in sofware, I have a couple hundred hours in the cluster so far but It will be what makes my truck Unique

Hmm anyone for a sponsor? think of all the publicity this would bring when done =)

Very nice K5. I've been following your thread about it over on CK5 as well. I want to put a LBZ/Allison 6 speed into an '80s model K5 that originally came with a 6.2L diesel/700R4 combo. I like your idea of using those home built door panels so you can use the late model PW/PDL switches. Only things I want to do in a Duramax K5 build that are different than yours is a passenger drop tcase and I'd retrofit the donor truck's gauge cluster, steering column and steering wheel into the rig. But don't get me wrong, I do like your home built gauge cluster idea. It goes well with the original dash.

it looks like you incorporated a great deal of the wiring from the donor into the blazer... did you eliminate anything and if so, what?

I can tell you that using the early crap isnt as hard as youd think, so putting the dmax cluster is ok but there is no need for the colum, I did drivers side drop because you allmost have to. the dmax is setup with everything pushed over to the right for propshaft on the left. and whats with the members paying to use K5:(

I havent really decided all thats gettin eliminated, its got allmost everything incl onstar.Ive mostly eliminated the factory ac as ill mate what i need to the vintage air evap kit.
Im just putting together the dana 60 front axle now and finishing my transmission upgrade as well as the twin turbos

I know there is no need for the column but if I wanted to retrofit the gauge cluster into the truck, I'd want the column and steering wheel as well.
