Does anyone make one?
Is it needed?
I would like to put a LLY in a early 1990's Toyota Landcruiser. Planning on a NV4500 trans, so no Allison.
How does one typically deal with the wiring on this?

Also...is it safe to say that the 6.5TD and Duramax are similar in size?
I know that a 6.5TD will fit into a Toyota LC, but I have been unable to find anyone that has put a Duramax in one.

No need for a stand-alone controller, just run a stock LLY controller with a ZF6 manual trans cal in it and either get a PPE, EFILIVE, or have one of the many tuners disable the VATS and she'll run. I would reccomend getting EFILIVE as I can vouch from experience that you will have some quirks in the tuning when you go to a custom set-up. The DURAMAX and the 6.5 are semi-similiar, but nowhere near the same dimensions. It is MUCH taller and wider at the top, along with using completely different engine mount arrangements. It will also hang down a bit lower and wider in the oil pan, it is just a beast all around. With a decent lift though it shouldn't be a problem to fit it in. Lengthwise the DURAMAX and the 6.5 are really close to each other, or if anything it is a little shorter as it doesn't have the water pump sticking way out in front. If you head over to TTS you'll find my thread on my BURB and find some good pics on just how tight a DMAX fits where a 6.5 once was.

Thanks Ferm...That sounds decent.
I would like a ZF, but for some reason they cost $1000 more than a NV4500. That trans would hook up to the Dmax, right?
I know a 4500 will fit in the LC, not sure about the ZF. I'm afraid it might be too wide for the body....
This is all uncharted waters, no one else has done it that I know of.

The DURAMAX will accept any tranny that uses a GM 90 degree bolt pattern for the bellhousing. You could bolt up a 700R4 or a little TREMEC t-5 if you wanted too, wouldn't work too well but would be destructive. You would need the ZF6 OS in the ECM though as the one for an ALLISON will be looking for TCM messages over the J1939 data bus that talks to the ECM, FICM, and TCM. By running the manual trans cal you can make the engine hit full power without looking for TCM messages. And if your not good with electrical PPE can take your stock harness and build it custom to whatever you want. I would look into the NV4500 and see if you can mate up the DODGE version to it though, I'm pretty sure they had a larger main shaft in them.
