Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum so this is also my introduction to you. I have an '04 Duramax and love it! The truck is a crew cab 2500 with all the options . . . even a dealer installed hitch in the bed!

My question/comment is on Bio-Diesel. I started running Blue Sun (gobluesun.com) a few weeks ago. The owner of the fuel place uses it in his Duramax and said the fuel filter will need to be changed after the first or second tank. I'm half-way through the second tank and my engine feels like the turbo quit working! The bad flow threw a code and now the transmission is getting wierd too. I haven't driven in a few days and have the new filter. This seems like a lot more than just the fuel but what do you think?

Thanks for your input. In reality, I just want to bring the Bio-Diesel option to everyones attention. I'll post again when I know more about it.

Thanks,
Dave

I am run a mixture of it in my truck (ah the good old red ) and so far I have put 3 tank fulls thought it with no filter change ( the filter is some what new already ) and all I have seen is a 3 MPG increase in fuel mileage so I would say that I am more than happy with it and will continue to use it. I think its like 30% of its bio (soy) blend.

You may want to check out the bio-diesel sub-forum here

You shouldn't have enough junk in the fuel system of an 04 to plug filters that quickly. That warning about changing filters usually applies to older vehicles. You might want to check to be sure the bio you bought was up to specs and/or is not contaminated. Otherwise, I doubt your problem is related to the biodiesel.

Hi Dave

The main reason the owner of the station told you to change the fuel filter after a tank or two is because he is a doofus. The only reason that anyone would have to change out a fuel filter is because their truck is old, and has had many tanks of dino diesel through it. The dino diesel leaves deposits, and crap in the tank. The biodiesel cleans it out, and thus clogs the fuel filter. I would not worry about this happening, unless your truck has got 50k+ miles on it.

That being said, you may want to go and change the fuel filter. If anything, you may have gotten a bad batch of BD from him, or your truck has some other non BD related problem. Change out filters, bleed the air out of the system (as per owners manual) and cut the old filter open. Take a look, maybe post pics of the filter here for the rest of us.....

I assume that your truck is pretty new (less than 5k miles?), and that you are running on B20 Blue Sun BD. Correct?

In regards to biodiesel in general, there are plenty of us here who use it (B2 to B100) and the Duramax seems to take to it nicely......assuming that the BD is good quality.......

I personally am running B50.

I have put at least 10K miles using B100 blended to 16 to 20% and have had no problems. I started using bio at around 10K miles.
