well my truck has almost 150k on it now and i have no idea if the injectors were replaced at 100k or not. it smoke excessively and chugs on a cold start up. i was thinking about getting a set of marine injectors from either heath or ssdiesel supply but didnt know if itd be worth the money or not. any help is great thanks guys

Theres been a few threads on this already.. but...

For the normal user the extra cost for marine injectors aren't worth it. The best thing to do is buy a brand new set of Stanadyne or Bosch injectors. Either from an online vendor or some local Diesel shops may be able to get them.

I guess it does its job lol. It was already installed when I bought the truck 3 years ago, so I can't compare before and after lol.

x2 the stock injectors can flow more fuel than these injector pumps are capable of.

x3

The stock injectors will flow way more fuel than the IP can ever provide. The IP is the weak spot in the fuel flow area.

X4 Just by a set of Bosch injectors..

although the stock injectors may be able to flow more fuel, its a matter of how they flow more fuel. Contrary to popular belief the injector does not set the fuel pressure, except at idle perhaps. The injector sets the pop pressure, but in order to get a greater amount of fuel out of the injector the line pressure has to go up. The DS4 can output up to like 11000psi max.

A marine injector raises the pop pressure, so there is some greater load on the IP at idle, however its only a 100psi difference, 2100psi to 2200psi, or about there.

At anything but idle the line pressure is going to increase to get more fuel out, more volume (fuel) in the same space (lines) in the less time (higher RPM). Marine injectors also use a larger nozzle. Therefore more volume can flow at higher RPMs at the same pressure when compared to a stock injector.

What the larger nozzle may serve to do is actually lower the line pressure at higher RPM, putting less strain on the IP.

I ran with 7 "marine" injectors from SSDS and one stock Delphi for a long time and never had any issue, no imbalances. This tells me either the pop pressure difference doesnt affect much at idle, or SSDS sells stock turbo injectors as marine ones. So I would go with Heath or maybe Peninsular.

The N/A diesel had different injectors with a pop around 1800psi, compared to the turbo application of 2100psi pop pressure.

Seems to not matter. I have 6.5TD injectors in my 6.2 N/A blazer, and it makes absolutely 0 difference.

Ya,but what happens if you reverse the procedure & install 1800 lb. pops in a Turboed 6.5 application ?? I was just told by a credentialed,MFR authorized Injector/pump rebuilder I`ve used for years to not install 1800Lb POP N/A in a 6.5 TD. Looking for feedback /answers .The truck use is a daily driver and sometimes trailer towing @ 13000GRCW.Has all the Heath goodies/toys!

I've had the SSD Marine units for over 2 years and I haven't noticed any appriciable difference. There is an increase in white smoke at start up though these past couple of months and I've got a set of Bosch remans waiting to go in next week.

alright so from the sounds of it i should prolly just go with a set of injectors from bosch. you guys know a lot more about all this than i do. i can do a small block in and out but diesels are another story. is there any other upgrade i can do with the injectors to get a decent power gain? i know the 6.5 is far from a power house but i just feel like it should have more power than it does

The only thing you can do is a reflash if you haven't already. That'll help in the power department. I went with Heath's HP4 and then his GL4. I"m a very pleased customer, as are many others that went with Heath's products.

i noticed on heath (i didnt look around too long) that theres a GL4 and a GLE ecm. any major differences between them?

oh and one other thing if i went with the injectors or ecm or both could i set my boost pressure higher? im running about 9 max right now ive had it up to 11 and it actually ran better but would go into some kinda "oh shit" mode when i got over 75 for any length of time until i shut it off and started it back up

Yes, the reflash will allow you to run higher boost, up to 15psi easy and push 25% more fuel when you put your foot into it. Its a night and day difference worth every penny, although the OBD2 stuff is pricey, and Heaths is up there.

You could also just solve your "oh shit" problem with a boost fooler, which is like a $10 potentiometer wired in parallel to your boost sensor. That way stock PCM will think there is less boost and allow more.

any recommendations on an ecm? i really just want as much power as possible. moneys not really an object it will just take me longer to save for it and id rather not ever need to upgrade from whatever i get

Go with Heath then.

He's the best in the 6.5 business. That's all he does is the 6.5, and he's damn good at it too. :D

I dont know if Heath has the best, but he has happy customers and a good reputation, you would not be disappointed. If keeping the GM-x and a turbomaster Heaths PCM is a good idea.

Don't mean to hi-jack but I've been looking for a dyno # on heaths speed record truck. I've heard anywhere from 300-400 hp. He has the HyPo inj's but stock pump. Anybody?

I would imagine Heath truck is only pushing like 300hp max, but he has high gearing and aerodynamic/weight mods to get top speed.

Although if pushing 5000 RPM then horsepower is found there
