Any of you guys have the behind the seat subbox spec? MAX size? Can I buy a good one or should I build one?

Have you thought of under the rear seats?

1 each 10" downfire which is located on the box behind the driver. The other side is a place to put the amp and stuff.

Other model has both side available for 2 each 10" downfire.

Will check about the # of 8" speakers that can be used.

LATER!

Bodysurfer,

Did you have to modify the seat frame? Where did you get that box? What speakers do you have in the box?

I am looking for the same thing. Wanted to go behind the seat, because I have my mp3 changer mounted under the seat. Where else would I put that?

How much for those? Just curious, trying to decide if I want to go down that road. Stereo stock right now.

Tel 9000 re-mount the changer to behind the seat. I saw that box at subthump.com. It's worth it if you don't want to build one. I saw it and thought I could build it and I am about 3/4 of the way done. The box at subthump.com is only $165. I am putting a JL Audio 3Wv2 in mine. It has a mounting depth of 5 and 3/4 inches. I hope this helps.

if you get 6" ones done in the right box, they will hit harder than 12's......

They will never "hit harder than 12s" that are in the right box.

I like the $119 box.

Questions: Does it impede on the seat at all?? Is there an advantage of the downfire boxes over the behind the seat boxes?

I don't think your seats will fold down all of the way
IMO down fire boxes have more output

I have a behind the seat box from ProBox and it holds two 10" subs for $180. I had to remove the pins that hold the seat flaps on to get the box to sit low enough so that the seat would fold all the way back and lock. I wasn't going to drill through my back wall to mount the box to the wall. I have some vibrations, but its proboably due to the box vibrating on the metal seat brackets. It sounds decent, but if I had to do it all over again, I would proboably go for an under the seat box.

Well that sucks, I just ordered one  . Is their nothing you can do about the vibrations? Foam tape or something? Did you have to chop off the air vents in the back?

I haven't really looked into dampening the vibrations yet, but I didnt remove the rear air vents, I just pulled the pins on the seat flaps and let the box sit down on the flap brackets. My dual coil competition subs also slap the back of the seat, so it may be a good idea to get some grills to cover the subs.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting some grilles, I figured hitting the seatbacks would wear out the little rubber things on the speakers. So do you think I should go with an underseat box? Or do you think this one will work fine after getting the vibration out? To me, it is worth a little trade-off to be able to still fold the seat down (you are able to still fold the seat down, right)?

BTW, do you mean like you can hear it vibrating or feel it vibrating?

BTW2, what was the mounting depth on your speakers?

I am still able to fold down the seat, but my vibrations are comming from some plastic trim it sounds like. Also, I heard under the seat boxes will sound better. Personally, I would go with an under the seat box. I do not know the mounting dimensions of my subs, they are MA Audio 10" dual voice coil 300w sustained 600watt peak.

You need grills and IIRC you can fold your seat down just not all of the way.

Here's a couple pics of mine. Dual down fire 10's in a Subbox.net box. You can kinda get the idea of how far the seat will fold. They may go a little bit more if I were to move the front seats forward. The bottoms are hitting the front seat, and the rear head rests are stopping them.

Im sorry, it was a misprint. Two 8" inch subs done correctly, will EMBARASS any set of 4 12's you can come up with or even 2 15's........some people throw 12s under there thinking thats the way to go, but two 8's done correctly in the appropriate box will make people think you've got a truck full of 12's or 15's......most people just dont know how to build the best box and just buy the first thing they see......

Thanks. They have ordered the behind the seat one already and they said they would not make me take it if I did not want it. So I may see how that works first.

Why would the underseat ones sound better? Not saying you are wrong, just wanting to know why, because I heard just the opposite.

Does anyone know if there is a plug-in adapter like 110volt, I've been using my system around the camp fire at a buddies place in the country, sure is nice to crank up the tunes, but I would like to run a extension cord and plug in 110 so the batteries don't run down. I'm building a custom box to fit 4 jl audio 8" woofers, using dynamat totally inside cab, Alpine IVA900, Boston Acoustics Z6 6.5" components, & more to add later, thanks for the info!

The back for the seat is denser than the seat bottom down fire helps too. That may not be true in all cases, buts that's my .02

I believe there are inverters that plug into your cigarette lighter its still going to run down your battery though.

Dozerboy,
Yea, I have one of those from Radio Shack, but not exactly what I'm wanting to do, looking for something totally special for just playing tunes for 3 hours or so.
