Taking off the old one - wow, I had to use a filter wrench.

Putting on the new one -
I put in a new magnet and threaded it all the way and then hand tightened it as much as I could,
Am I good to go? or half a turn with the wrench?

pic coming soon of the oem filter and magnet one at 6k miles.

Hand tight is fine.

One turn ... the following is a quote from the Helms Factory Service Manual..

93471

Reinstall the magnet (2) onto the filter attachment tube (1) which is in the converter housing.
Lubricate the gasket (3) on the control main filter with transmission fluid.
Install, by hand, the control main filter (4) until the gasket on the control main filter touches the converter housing. Notice: Turning the control-main filter more than ONE FULL TURN after gasket contact will damage the filter and may cause fluid leakage.
Turn the filter ONE FULL TURN ONLY after gasket contact. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Reinstall the drain plug (6) and drain plug seal (5).

oh noo,
I am not sure how far I tightened it after it rubber gasket touched!!!
I will start it up and go through the gears and check for leaks, keeping fingers crossed.

I have 7500 and haven't done this yet, I only need a filter change right not an entire fluid change?

Also do I pre-lube the filter by filling it first?

I'm a newbe to Ally's and this is my first D-Max....Love it so far!!

ok I started it and went through the gears couple of times and let it idle for 5 mins and shut down.
No leaks, yeaaah,
tomorrow morning I will drive around the block and check and go hit menards for some blinds.

Mod: I did not prefill, I read you lose a pint of fluid with filter change, so refill that much.
make sure you take the magnet out and clean it and replace it,
I bought few extra magnets from ally dealer ($3 each)

yes, just filter change after break in period at first oil change..

Its the same as any oil filter, no sense in getting worked up about it.

I would check the fluid before changing the filter. If the level is ok just pre fill the filter.
