: Need Tires
03duraHDmax 05-31-2005, 10:24 AM I'm looking for a set of tires to replace my stock tires. I just got a bolt through my LF and the other 3 look like they are due.
I don't want to cut my fender well but I definately want something bigger then stock... AND I'm on a budget.
I may tow 4 times a year my 4000 lbs boat all of 50 miles. That's it. Otherwise it's my daily driver - to and from work - etc..
:help:
vettelovralexand 05-31-2005, 11:05 AM Still need a bit of information to make a recommendation. Will you use your truck offroad or do you live in an area with snow and ice. How important is ride/tread life to you etc? How big are you wanting to go, do you want to keep the stock rims(i'm guessing yes if you are on a budget)? Give some more data and we'll try to help out.
noreaster 05-31-2005, 11:06 AM Nitto terra grappler 265/75/16 in D or E ratings, around $115 now
03duraHDmax 05-31-2005, 11:38 AM I live in NJ - snow and ice.. No off-road. I want to keep stock rims. Tread life is important but I guess this is where the trade off comes in.. So I'm willing to sacrafice some tread life.. But I hope these tires will last me at least a couple of years / 30K miles. I want to go as big as possible without major surgery to my fender well area. Minor surgery is okay :)
Thanks..
Denis

noreaster 05-31-2005, 11:47 AM Go with the 285's, that's what I have. Crank up the torsion bars 1 1/2-2", tie back the e-brake cable & inner fender wheels. Might have to trim alittle off of the front valance.
03duraHDmax 05-31-2005, 11:53 AM Thanks guys..
LarryJewell - thanks for the offer but I'm going to buy today and get installed by tomorrow.
Any 285's in particular to recommend?
noreaster 05-31-2005, 12:50 PM Nitto terra grappler awesome traction & good price, but expect only 30k out of them.
gmperfomance03 05-31-2005, 02:11 PM Go with BF Goodrich All-Terrains 285-75-16
Good all around tires, especially for your use. Personally im not a big fan of the Nitto Terra Grappler, especially for a truck that will see the street most of the time. But that's just my opinion. Can't go wrong with the BFG's.
vettelovralexand 05-31-2005, 02:16 PM I'd say that the BFG all terrains would be right up your alley with the conditions you described. The 285 is a stretch for the stock rim, but it should be okay.
WAskier 05-31-2005, 07:09 PM BFG AT's are a great choice as well as the Yokohama Geolander AT's I have on my truck. My tires are siped and they were great in the winter going up the passes to ski.
03duraHDmax 06-01-2005, 12:36 AM What is "siped"?
And are these the BFG's?

WAskier 06-01-2005, 02:51 AM This is a explanation of siping http://www.can4x4.com/articles/siping.html
And yes those BFG's you found are the ones. (Those are basically siped from the factory)
03duraHDmax 06-01-2005, 10:16 AM Thanks for the link WAskier - great explanation on siping.
Now it's time to get prices on the BFG's.
Thanks to all!
03duraHDmax 06-01-2005, 10:54 AM So far $200/tire is the best I've found locally - is this right? I was hoping for something a little less expensive.
WAskier 06-01-2005, 12:20 PM That seems a little high, the tirerack has the 285/75-r16 for $167/tire. The discount tire website has them for $184/tire.
