was towing about 14,000 on a 65 degree day up a 7 percent grade at 7500 elevation. trnny temp got to abot 230 and motor was around 240. that was bad enough to worry about but my real fear was spikes of 1500 on my egt. the average was around 1400. this hill is about 14 miles long and once you start there is no stopping because you wont get started again and no pull over spots or places to turn around. i called several dealerships and some said this was ok and others said this was to much. i know i didnt spend 50 grand for a truck that would not pull my trailer. i also have a 02 lb7 that has no problems at all doing this. i should also say that both trucks are stock. i looked up other posts on overheating but they are old and i was hoping that maybe this issue has been figured out. please help for i am lost.

My guess would be to check your air filter and make sure it is clean. Sounds like it may be plugged to me. A 4'' exhaust or even just a straight pipe will decrease EGT's. I would also make sure your coolant is topped off.

Have you dropped the CAT? Towing "ABOUT" 14K? Have you weighed the trailer? Mine was 10% heavier than reported.

I'll second that... Mine came in at almost 20% heavier than it should have been...
With what I had in mine, it *should* have weighed about 13k, but it weighed in at a little over 15K...
