Old thread, but I want to know the same thing...???

Any DIY write ups for a power steering pump mod?

If you want more hydraulic pressure at the pump, you could do this----

replace the current pressure control valve with P/N 26095470, available from GMSPO Dealears, and GMParts Direct.. This valve will provide additional steering assist during parking lot type maneuvers.

You will have to remove the pump from the engine, remove the pressure line and then the high pressure fitting-- the valve is under the fitting.

Have you done this....

Does it make a noticeable difference?

I have a 4X4 crew cab long bed with a utility box on it, and cannot turn the wheel at all when stopped!

I did not do this, because I don't need it with stock tires. Many have done this mod.

Some have disassembled the flow valve and added a washer under the spring to increase the pressure. The older valve had washers under the valve part (out put side with the screen) and all you had to do was remove a washer to increase the flow valve spring pressure, which also increased the pump pressure.
