I have a 05 2500HD Ext. Cab Duramax. When I come to a stop, I get a creaking noise that seams to be coming from the Lt front wheel area. There is no specific frequency (rythym) to it. When coming to a stop, with the brakes applied moderately, it starts to creak. If braking and turning to the left, the frequency increases and seems to get louder. When turning to the right, it still does it, but doesn't seem to be as annoying. I arranged to take it to the dealer and on that day it rained. (when it is raining, the noise is virtually non-existent).The tech said he drove it and he thinks he heard the noise and said it was normal "all the trucks do it" He further explained that it was the new braking system and pointed to the "master cylinder" and another "component" connected to the "master cylinder". When I drove the truck home the next day, it was dry out and it didn't do it. I figured that they must have found something, but didn't want to tell me (to embarrassing). I didn't care, I was happy that it was fixed. As I drove it the next couple days, the noise came back, and is just the same as it was before. The truck has done this since new, and now has 2200 miles on it. The only thing I have done to it, is put 285-75 tires on it. This creaking noise is very annoying and it's hard to believe that "all these trucks do it". To be honest, I am embarressed to have a passenger and have to tell them "its normal, they all do it". I have read all 11 pages of "Ask The Techs" and didn't see any threads with this particular problem, so I find it quite possible that this noise is "not normal". Sorry that this is so long, but I'm trying to give you the best info I can. Have any of you Pro's heard or seen anything even closely related to this. I'm certainly willing to try anything at this point. I have never posted before, so if I'm screwing this whole thing up, please let me have it!!! Thanks

Did you raise your torsion bars when you put the 285's on? many trucks (mine included) creak when turning, etc after raising them. its the torsion bars making the noise..

Thanks for the reply Diesel Power. To answer your ? Yesterday I did raise the torsion bars in hope that it would (maybe) solve the problem. But before yesterday, it was bone stock. It still did it with the 245's on it. If its the torsion bars, is there any way to spray some form of lubricant on them? When its wet, (raining out) and the underside is soaked, the noise is gone. Would it be the "front" part of the bar or the "rear" making the noise? Would the 2 inch front lift make any difference? Doesn't that noise drive you nuts? Or do you just turn the radio up until you can't hear it!!!!!! Sorry about the number of ?'s. My 96 6.5L has 200,000 mi on it, and it doesn't make any funky noises. It's just kind of irritating when you spend this kind of money. Sorry about the rant. Thanks again for info, at least I know what is probably making the noise.

I hate that kinda stuff... I've nearly traded vehicles in when I couldn't fix a squeak or rattle. Anyway, I had a similar problem on my old 02 1/2 ton that started a few months after I put the GM splashguards on (which require you to remove and replace the bolt that holds the fender to the rocker panel). The bolt was apparently just loose enough (it felt tight though) to allow some metal to metal friction as the truck flexed on braking and acceleration. It always stopped in the rain because the water essentially lubricated the friction point. When I finally figured out what it was and re-torqued it, the problem went away.
