OK.... You all remember buying your first new truck? I am there nowhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Throwup.gif

I am looking at buying a new truck here in a month or so. I have been reading here since I found the place a couple months ago. I was sad to hear that there are no more orders for 2005 - I was told they were stopped on May 5th. So, I am left to dealer inventory, a lightly used model or waiting for the '06.

I am going to get an SLT D/A CC SB 4x4, I have built it on gm buy power and I come out with an MSRP of $48,665 (with the options I wanted) and $495 for the assist steps.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

1)What do you guys think is the price I should shoot for from the dealers? (not allowing for any trade in)

2)I read here that the 6 speed will not be offered until '06.5 - is this correct?

3)Can you give me a guesstimate as to the earliest I could order an '06 and when I should expect it to arrive?

4)I am not totally against getting a like new used truck to save several thousand. I have been checking ebay, traderonline and went to the local dealer. Any good sources I am missing?

Thanks guys in advance for all the help!

Hopefully, a soon to be, new duramax ownerhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/thankyou2.gif

are there a lot of 05's on the lots near you? out here they're plentiful and even advertised on the radio. once the 06's hit they'll probably be trying to dump the 05's.. if they have anything left. have you tried doing a locate to find the vehicle you want and see what dealers have it? if not i would. then you can call the dealers direct, ask for the manager and make them an offer.

Looks like we bought McRat's truck 2 weeks early:( But I do know most dealers are dealing. If you want an 05 I would search GMbuypower.com

The less picky you are, the better the deal. Spec'ing out a GMC for that amount shows that you have good taste and know what you are after. You will be getting a better deal on an 05 compared to an 06 if the 06 comes out with the 6 speed and power upgrades. An 05 at that price, you may be able to get them down somewhere are 38-40K. Look for the Employee discount for everyone to be officially released on June 1st and may only apply to the 05's. I would look for orders for 06's to be accepted around late June/July or early August with July being the most likely candidate. Welcome to the place, and don't be shy about asking questions reguarding you new order/purchase. Many of us have been down that road before and are happy to help!

Deisel Power-

Seems to be a few on each lot. Most are "lightly used" with under 5000 miles on them. Yes I did the locate but only came up with a best of like 90% match and that one was not in a color that I liked. I will definitely build and check again when it comes time as their inventories are sure to change.

Kat - Thank you for the welcome. Yes I saw that! That is great news for those of us that are buying at the end of the season... Sorry your friend missed it:(

Reineke - I am pretty picky:cool: .... I figure if I am spending that much, I may as well get exactly what I want. Thanks for the good taste compliment:) If we can place the orders then when should I reasonably expect delivery? Is 8 weeks ball park? For example, worse case, I order early August can I expect delivery early October?

Any truth to might have to wait until 06.5 to get the 6 speed. I would hate to wait the extra months and then not be able to get the new tranny.

THANK YOU ALL very much for your help! I really want to make sure I get this right the first time around and cover all my bases):h

I would guess that if you ordered in early Aug, you should have it by late September, early October. But you have to take into account that there will be orders accepted before assembly starts and it may take longer to get the truck in du to high orders at the time. I ordered mine in mid September and it was at my dealer by late October and I bought it November 3rd. It was built on October 21st. Just for reference.

I think the 06.5 rumor is from past experiences. We won't know for sure for a few more weeks yet, but it was on the "new for 06" sheet sent to dealers. It is a toss up whether it will or won't.

You will be surprised at how painless the whole ordering process is. It is good though to be prepared and have you bases covered. :grd:
