Hello. I built a platform to haul a car on my gooseneck trailer. The concept works perfect for getting the vehicle up there but it sways EXTREMELY bad with a chevy S10 on top. My question is, would it help the stability of the trailer if I converted the gooseneck to a fifth wheel?

It might help a bit, but shifting the weight would be better. Turn the S10 around and see how it does.

It would also help if you filled out your signature with vehicle specifics.
Sounds like a lot of weight over the axle. Is your truck single or DRW.
The sway will be much more pronounced on singles with high center loads.

I am pulling it with a 2008 chevy 3500 DRW. The truck is not swaying but the trailer is leaning back and forth.

I think it is just too much weight right over the pin.
Can you try putting the S10 over the trailer axles and moving something smaller up top?
Sounds like you need more weight over the trailer axles to compensate/settle all the weight you have on the pin- all that pin weight is acting like a fulcrum due to the location.

Having an S10 up there is what - 2 tons? Too much weight forward and that high will definitely cause it to be unstable on a trailer, almost as bad as to far to the rear, due to the high center of gravity compared to a normal tow.
I see no benefit to a fifth wheel hitch over the gooseneck, it's the high center of gravity causing the problem.

nay sayers..... how do the hot shot car hauler guys do it? I see them run all the time around here with one car all the way on the front of the trailer.... no abnormal sway with their setups.....
only question I have is your obviously trying to put that s10 up front for a reason.... so if you putting other things behind it does it help with the sway or does it do it regardless off what else is on the trailer?
Personally you couldn't pay me to pull anything with a gooseneck, I hate them things! give me a kingpin and a plate!!

I see no benefit to a fifth wheel hitch over the gooseneck, it's the high center of gravity causing the problem.
Then you haven't pulled with both of them The 5th wheel will be much more stable.
It's kind of like standing with your feet close together, (5th wheel plate) or standing on your tip toes on one foot, (gooseneck ball).
Yes, I run a hotshot.
