: Tire Tumor WTF???
rolloffhill 05-30-2005, 08:40 PM I got back from my memorial day festivities, and walk around my truck and found this. The tires are less than a year old, with less than 12k miles on them. What do you think happened? The only thing that I can think of is under inflation. They where at about 50 psi last time I checked. I put them up to 65psi about a week ago. I had the exact same set stock from the general that lasted me 87k miles with no problems. With that set I ran them at 65psi alot also.
Any comments?
TEXMudder 05-30-2005, 09:06 PM Ive seen that once before when pulling up to a guy at a stop light. Flagged him down and told him. No clue what causes it but it sure did look funny.
partsguy662 05-30-2005, 09:08 PM Ugh..You have a date with the tire shop tomorrow...asap
rolloffhill 05-30-2005, 09:11 PM Yeah, I put the spare on and I am heading down there tomorrow morning. The other side looks similar about 1 1/2" from the bead it looks like it is seperating. You can kind of see it in one of the pics.
dozerboy 05-30-2005, 09:15 PM I have Pirelli tires on my Blazer and have had three replaced in an around a year for that.
rolloffhill 05-30-2005, 09:17 PM Any Idea what caused it, did you get them replaced free, prorated or did you have to buy a new set?
_nar_ 05-30-2005, 09:30 PM Wow that looks bad. Good thing you noticed before it blew out.
aegis 05-30-2005, 10:38 PM It's a pre cancerous tumor and must be removed asap.
BrianH323 05-30-2005, 11:13 PM Most of the time it's caused from hitting a pothole or some big object in the road. That bubble is pretty bad! We see them all the time in cars with low profile tires because the sidewall can't absorb the impact, but not too much in truck tires.

rolloffhill 05-31-2005, 07:34 PM Well I went to my local Goodyear dealer today, I was wrong there were 18k miles on the tires and bought in August last year. The guy there kept saying you must have hit a big pothole that is the only thing that could have caused it. Well, don't you think I would remember if I hit a pothole big enough to do that kind of damage? I kept telling him I hadn't hit a pothole, I said it look like sidewall failure to me. Well he talked to his manager and said that (without callinga a goodyear rep) Goodyear would not warranty those and could not do anybetter than giving me a new set a cost. I was hot! But I never got angry at him and never got loud (like I usually do in that situation). I was very quiet and the guy could tell I was upset. Well after my two hour wait to get them looked at he didn't even have two to put on there. An hour before I asked him and he said he had two in stock. Well I left, he said he would call me when they get them in. I got a call 20 minutes after I left and he said the Goodyear rep would back them up and warranty them so I will get them replaced. Just don't know when. Hopefully tomorrow, I've got a job to get done 4 hrs. from here and I am sitting here spinnin' waiting on tires.
At first I thought........:rippedhan :sheephump and I'm the sheep.
But now everything is  :cool2: hopefully.
dozerboy 05-31-2005, 09:11 PM Mine where all replaced by the warranty I have been told that Pirellis are known for it. Yes, it is a pothole most of the time, but I have never had them on any other tires I have had. I think it is quite apparent that if you hit something that hard you would have gotten the rim too. I would rip someone a new one if they tried to say I hit somthing.
rolloffhill 05-31-2005, 09:14 PM Yeah he showed me the rim and said you must have hit something because it looks dented.... I said, no it looks that way b/cause of the tire hanging over the bead...Plus I run simulators and they are not dented or damaged at all. I also told him if I had hit something that hard I would have prolly thrown my alignment off....
For some reason I was extra calm today..I don't know why because I am usually not when someone tells me I am wrong.
Idle_Chatter 05-31-2005, 10:00 PM I had my OEM Firestone Steeltex that I had taken out of spare just go down without warning at speed on I-95 in Florida (thank goodness it was right at a rest stop in-ramp!) I swapped it out and drove on to Maryland on the plugged spare that it had replaced. I took the tire to a shop to check and when they aired it up it blistered up in three spots on the outer sidewall. The tire was brand new and had only been run 4,000 miles since coming out of spare to use. I called a Firestone shop and he said "it's warranteed if it isn't rubbed or banged - not if it is." When I pulled up and dragged the warty tire and wheel out of the bed he said - "yep, it's warranteed!" In fifteen minutes I had a brand new tire mounted, balanced and on my truck at no charge. That tire is still in spare.
Rockin 06-01-2005, 01:07 PM I really detest goodyear tires. had them on an old truck and they ran like crap, had no traction etc. And their stores seem to have really stupid people but for some reason are super busy????
freddyo 06-01-2005, 06:48 PM I had a relatively new BFG 265/75 LT AT do the same on the inside wall. Now running Revo E's.
rolloffhill 06-01-2005, 06:57 PM Next set will be Revo 235's no doubt, plus the wrangler at/s' have been discontinued. Well I got my tires today so I am happy. Didn't cost me a thing. Which is good. Still not going to buy goodyears next time, it is time to move on.
oteo125 06-04-2005, 08:05 PM i use to work at a tireplace an have seen this before due to stone or rock bruising. but i have to admit that is the largest ive ever seen.
Brinker007 06-05-2005, 03:37 PM Tire bubble is sidewall failure from... excessive pressure, load or damage sustained. Either way I have warrantied more than I can count in my years as a tire guy. Common problem, nothing to stress over. Just get it replaced.
Technically it should be warrantied since the tire shop cannot prove you did the damage. On a side note, tire quality has alot to do with sidewall bubbles also. Try getting a set of bridgestones or michelins your next time around.
Good day.
rolloffhill 06-05-2005, 03:57 PM Since when is goodyear not a "quality" tire? I thought they were
Brinker007 06-05-2005, 04:17 PM Depends on who you talk to. I base quality on the amount of comebacks I got with unhappy customers.
JJs DuMax 06-06-2005, 02:43 PM I had one of my dually tires doing the same thing. IMHO running these tires at max PSI stresses them to the max. I'm just waiting for the OEM's to get down far enough on the tread to justify a set of Michelin XPS Traction tires. JJ :)
