The short cycle could be a weak connection between the batteries and the terminals (typical). The funky code at startup sounds like CPS code or optical code giving you limp mode.

what code...is there a way i can read it i wont go to gm as theres a $90 fee...which is absurd for 15 seconds...i would be happy to spend the money on a cheap scanner if one exists..i will check the terminals on the batt...the batteries are 4 years old but she dosent have this problem when shes cold only on a hot start ie i go into the store for a few thanks-Jim
one more thing..over the winter sometimes i would turn the key no lp/gp truck was on lites radio ect sometimes the relay would buzz so i replaced it and cleaned and greased <electrical grease> a 3 or 4 pin plug and a round one which were right near ther driverside relay box against the fender since then, febuary, i have not had a repat of this sorry if im bein a pain i am reading thru the posts on the forum ...Jim

autozone reportedly checks for free. Other than that the option are to buy a scantool or software and scan it yourself.

some of the replacement glow plugs out there don't heat up as hot as the old OEM and will start hard maybe the WVO is make it a bit harder to start and you need a longer glow cycle. I added the SS Diesel Glow Plug over ride a couple months back and now I just push the button to glow as long as I want after the CPU controller cycle ends. The kit is $70 and it took me about an hour to install the hard part was fishing the wires through the dash other wise I could have did it in about 20 minutes and I'm a clutz.
