The best.....for what? The best for a stock trans? The best for reading DTC's? The best for stacking? The best for performance? The best for EGT's? The best for gas mileage? The best for pulling a 5th wheel? The best bang for the buck? Let us know what you want and we'll try to help you. You have a "Loaded Question" that is hard to answer unless you give us some more :help2:/input on what you are using it for.

well, that too is a loaded question then, for now the truck will remain stock in form other than a K&N drop in and what ever tunner i go with, most of what i do is pull a 28' gooseneck with my tractor/cutter on it.. i would say 95% of the time my load will be no more than 12k lbs and the occasonal 23k lb dozer transport.

i plan to do an exaust upgrade as soon as i can afford to, but that may be some time.
thanx in advance.

*edit* i also want to play abit when not hooked up):h

My opinion, an Edge EZ would do a great job for you. You should get a pyro gauge and install it first. Then get a programmer. I like the Edge EZ. Sounds like it is Level 1-3 of the Edge Juice w/ Attitude for about $450. The Predator is excellent, Plug and go, $300-$350ish, but tends to run hot and can't be adjusted on the fly...might not be the best for towing. I use my Predator for the real time data, checking DTC's and correcting my speedometer for oversized tires. If you get an Edge Juice w/ Attitude, it comes with a pyro. and has 2 higher levels than the EZ. It also has a trick readout that lets you monitor up to 4 functions at once. It goes for about $650 new on E-bay. The VanAeken (VA) smart box is similar to the Edge EZ. Banks speedloader w/ 6 gun offers on the fly adjustment like the edge products and VA, but also raises the fuel rail psi http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/badidea.gif and I don't like that. Like I said earlier. For all above mentioned except Edge Attitude, you need a pyro gauge installed to tow. If you get an Edge Attitude, make certain it is a V1.2 before you get it. If it is not, send it in for an update before you use it. Updates are free. You should be able to get a V1.2 straight from the dealer. The only one that can change your speedometer is the Predator. My favorite is the Edge Juice w/ Attitudehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif. Hopefully some others w/ Bullydog, TTS, and Quadzilla (Quad) can let you know a bit about those and the other options. You can also do searches on the forums to get a lot of info. Hope this helps.
Don't forget to check the supporting vendors and get some prices from them!!

oh, one other Q...the egt probe, should that be before, or after the turbo, reason i ask is that on all gas burners i had i always put it about 2~3" down stream(after) the turbine wheel, even on my turbocharge motorcycle, and it saw around 1800* or higher under WOT and high boost (12psi was stock, i ran 24 psi and the temps where just over 2k* at about 175 mph :coolio: )

You can do either. I have mine in the manifold. You get quicker readings that way. My buddy moved his from the down pipe to the manifold like mine for that reason. The down pipe will read a couple hundred degrees cooler and is not as responsive to the heat increases under load. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Both will work just fine. The Predator is an excellent start for you. No matter what you do in the future, the Predator will be a handy tool to have around. They are getting some amazing HP #'s out of the Predator. The 100hp tune is something like 140-150hp added at the rear wheels on the LLY (from dyno #'s posted around these boards). It will trash your tranny real quick!! Great bang for the buck. It runs hot!! Get a pyro.!!

The Edge isn't a tuner! It`s a program that conects in line. Not a programmer, or tuner, just a program.
