I have an '01 LB7 crew cab with a 2 peice drive shaft and the u-joints need to be replaced and i want to know which brand and model (if more than one to choose from) to use. The dealership wants 110 ea. and seems way to high and autozone only carrys Duralast red and gold series and there 10.00 and 19.00 but i dont want to use then if they suck and im going to be doing this again in 6 months.... Should i go greasable or good totally sealed ones? I did do a search and the only thing i could find on the fourms was a spicer 5-801x for a replacement suggestion from one person.... Thank you for your help....

GM ones are probably made by spicer anyway. Greaseable is always good as long as you keep them greased. The only thing with a greasable one is they arent as strong as a solid one, that shouldnt be an issue for regular use though.

Well, if you go with a parts store.
I know Autozone's non-greaseable u-joints have a lifetime warranty. So if they do break, take them back and say I want a new one, and some other words behind that.

Anyway, non greaseable are actually stronger. This is because they do not have or should not have the passages for grease thur the joint. But you can't grease them.

I will also add, spicer makes good parts.

thanks for the input i just didnt want to buy the duralast and waste my time putting them in and doing them again every six months even if they were lifetime waranty i would be wasting my time every time to do it. So was just curious if they hold up just as good for as long as a "Spicer" Brand name the spiciers are about 28 bux and would be worth the money if they last longer....

Shop around, you can find spicer OE. joints a bit cheaper than that, and spicer greaseables even cheaper (like 16$).

One thing about greaseable vs sealed u-joints that people dont realize is that not all non greasable joints are actually a quality sealed unit. Neapco's brute force joint for example, commonly found at advanced auto parts are not greasable, but have the same cheap rubber seal as a greasable, so contaminants get in, but theres no way to grease it to flush them out.
