ok i know im a idiot but i crossed both poles on the glow plug relay witha jumper wire on a 1982 and now the relay will not click and the light does not come on. did i just burn up the relay?

what poles? the one where the little black plug goes on? i dont think that will do anything bad.

do you mean the posative and negative leads on the relay? if you jump those you can make the glow plugs come on when the key is on and it shouldnt burn the relay up, but it is possible

you may have simply blown a fuse for the relay. check the dash fuses.

Vstech's correct, if you crossed the two small wires, hooked to the two spade terminals, it would blow the fuse, because the blue wire is internally grounded in the controller. That would result in the a "B+ to Grnd" connection.

If you jumpered across the two copper bolts, where the B+ connects to the glow plugs, the relay should not have been harmed. It would result in the glow plugs being energized. If you used a small (14 ga) wire, it would have gotten extremely hot within seconds as it attempted to carry the full current load of all eight glow plugs.

Either way, the relay would not likely suffer any damage.
